For those of you running Windows and use Winamp 2.81*, Nullsoft has WA2.9 beta out. It adds quite a few of the WA3 features to WA2 - all the goodness with none of the frickin bloat that WA3 had.

Oh yeah, and apparently Nullsoft is canning WA3 and moving ahead with the WA2 core, adding on the rest of WA3's features (freeform skinning, etc) and calling it WA5.

* If you haven't downloaded WA2.81 recently, there is a security fix in the current install that was not in the original release. Why Nullsoft didn't bump it to 2.811 or something is rather odd.

This is good news for me! I hated winamp 3

The sonique-style skins weren't worth sit, since they sacrificed everything else like sound quality, file size, etc.
"Right now we can tell you a report was filed by the family of a 12 year old boy yesterday afternoon alleging Mr. Michael Jackson of criminal activity. A search warrant has been filed and that search is currently taking place. Mr. Jackson has not been charged with any crime. We cannot specifically address the content of the police report as it is confidential information at the present time, however, we can confirm that Mr. Jackson forced the boy to listen to the Howard Stern show and watch the movie Private Parts over and over again."

My guess is that since they're combining 2 and 3...

It wasn't really ever finished, either. Nullsoft's announcement that the WA3 codebase is being canned has pissed off a lot of developers who've made stuff for it. A cool toy, but much slower than WA2.
