I've heard some insistence from a couple of Marxist-Leninist groups that the incident was indeed a pile of nothing, or at least dramatically overblown. I don't find them too credible, but I do wonder if you know of any trustworthy sources on the topic.

That's the part that's the most interesting to me about this whole thing. Had the regime (for lack of a better term) owned what had happened, then it might not be the phenomenon it is today.

When someone goes abroad for study purposes, odds are they'll come across it before their return home. So I wonder if there's some mechanism for dealing with that.

If someone searches for "Tiananmen Square" in PRC, will it affect their social credit score?

Probably not that hard to convince the general population it was all just western propaganda, and everything is greatly exaggerated.
