Levar Burton (Geordi) NOT killed in truck accident!

Post by BlkbrryTheGreat »

I was utterly shocked when I read this, Geordi was one of my favorite characters.....

OBITUARY

Levar Burton, 46, killed in a truck accident; victimized by post-mortem insults.

By The Associated Press

Sequoia Indian Reserve, Monday, March 31-- Levar Burton, star of Roots and Star Trek fame, was killed in an accident with a tractor trailer Sequoia Police Chief C. Mugiw revealed today.

Information thus far indicates that Burton, who was vacationing at the local Indian Casino on the Reserve, had returned to his limo to retrieve his cell phone when a tractor trailer slammed into the parked vehicle, instantly killing Burton.

Chief Mugiw said that while the investigation was still in progress certain information could be released to the public. Apparently, the driver of the tractor trailer, whose name has not yet been revealed, was receiving sexual favors from a local prostitute when he lost control of the vehicle and slammed into Burton's limo. The driver has been detained, with charges pending.

Eye Witness's indicate that police quickly rushed to the scene but acted completely unprofessionally after discovering the identity of the victim. To quote eyewitness J. Cammel "You should have heard them, they were acting completely inappropriately, they were making jokes at the his expense. I mean come on, the guy was barely dead for 10 minutes and they were making jokes about how this was a "transporter accident" and how this would have never happened if had he taken his "communicator" with him when he left his car the first time."

Chief Mugiw denied that the incident took place but indicated that an investigation would be forth coming.

Devolution is quite as natural as evolution, and may be just as pleasing, or even a good deal more pleasing, to God. If the average man is made in God's image, then a man such as Beethoven or Aristotle is plainly superior to God, and so God may be jealous of him, and eager to see his superiority perish with his bodily frame.

Doesn't read like a real news report. It's written unproffessionally.

I smell fish, and of the April variety...

I know, that one sounds a little less obvious though. At least they didn't go O'Brien.

It's probably a joke. We'll just have to wait a few days to get it confirmed. I would hate to see him die.

Why would the NY Times print an April Fool's joke? I admit it sounds like a joke, but I had thought the Times editors had the rod shoved MUCH too far up their collective asses for something like that.

Funny, the link doesn't work. Not only that, but I search the site and found nothing.

Googled it, and guess what? That's right, more nothing.

Come on man, that was weak.

Accounts are free, or at least they were last I checked. Here's what I saw:

If you typed in the address, used a bookmark or followed a link from another Web-site, the page is no longer available. Most articles remain online for seven days after publication.
Most articles remain online for a full week after publication. This one was nowhere to be found on the same day of publication? Bullshit.

This is what I got when I searched the NYTimes website for the article:
There were no matches for your search "Levar Burton" / past 30 days.
Hmmm, suspicious, wouldn't you agree?

Add to the mix the fact that Google didn't come up with jack shit on this, and I'd say it's a pretty open and shut case.

It's too over-the-top to be even possibly believable.

I was laughing like a madman by the end of the article~ what a sick joke that was
"Right now we can tell you a report was filed by the family of a 12 year old boy yesterday afternoon alleging Mr. Michael Jackson of criminal activity. A search warrant has been filed and that search is currently taking place. Mr. Jackson has not been charged with any crime. We cannot specifically address the content of the police report as it is confidential information at the present time, however, we can confirm that Mr. Jackson forced the boy to listen to the Howard Stern show and watch the movie Private Parts over and over again."

Alright, I admit it. I'm caught!

I wrote the article and posted a phoney link that would take people to the NY times, but ask them for their password to access the "article". In other words I was counting on people's laziness for registering with the NY times just to verify the arcticle! I must say, it worked decently well and I at least managed to fool people (or keep them guessing) longer then with Mike did with his "subspacedestroyer.net" prank. I'm kind of proud of myself because I actually managed to construct the prank/joke to work on several levels.

1. Make people think that Levar Burton had actually died.

2. Funny names within the "article".

3. Make people actually think that the NY times POSTED the article.

4. The communicator and transporter jokes within the article.

So people, what do you think of the article as a prank, its convincingness as an article, and the jokes within it?

(I thought they were pretty good :D )

(edited for a spelling mistake)

I thought it was retarded and sick.

You should have written it so that it was actually believable.
