To be honest Soviet Union also used "fascist" to mean "anyone who doesn't agree with us" especially in the early days, so that might be source of the current wording as Putin is a former KGB member and Nazis are generally considered to be the "bad guys".

I'm not really worried about the current conflict. Russia has had its nose bloodied so hard the only plausible results are a peace treaty or WWIII. I can't do anything about either scenario.

Arming the 'heroic' Mujahideen in Aghanistan led to:

The Taliban
Al-Qaeda
Islamic State

I don't want to see that story play out again to a Nazi beat.

Could you give specifics on which neo-Nazi units the West is arming with what weapons, or is this a general "Arms are being sent to Ukraine and some of them will end up in the hands of neo-Nazis" thing?

The Ukrainian government is not currently in a position to be picky about who they enlist into the home guard. It was bad enough when it looked like Russia only planned to forcibly annex them and sell their every national asset of value to Putin's oligarch buddies, but now they've got Russian state media publishing detailed proposals to kill most of the population who aren't ethnically Russian and force the remainder into "re-education camps". The fash possibly winning some seats in the next election when this is all over is only about the third worst possible outcome at this point.

The Azov regiment is not what it was 8 years ago. It started out as a unit mainly composed of neonazis, but after the fighting in Donbass, was folded into the Ukranian military and now has a much more varied membership.

Besides, when the aggressor of an unjustified war has publicly put out a document where they lay out plans for the genocide of an entire nation of over 40 million people and has been seen putting it into practice, pearl clutching about the political leanings of a single regiment on the side targeted for genocide and casting doubt on helping the victims sounds to me like being complicit with the aggressors.

The West allied with the monster called Stalin in order to defeat Hitler in WWII. We knew he was a monster, and we weren't friends. We were just both fighting a common enemy.

In this conflict we are again allying with unsavory people not because we like them but rather because we have a common enemy.

If we don't deal with Putin right now then dealing with those other people later will be a moot point.

In an Ideal world we might be able to deal with Putin without arming neo-nazis but there's that minor thing that the world we live in is far from ideal and we have act according to the world we do live in, instead of world we'd want to live in.

If we want to aid Ukraine the fact of the matter is that there's neither the time or capability to be highly selective about said aid, that is unless we want to be a useless token effort only there so we can say we helped but not really providing any actual assistance.

Fact of the matter is that if Putin isn't dealt with now and we allow Ukraine to become our sacrificial lamb so we can say "we didn't help any neonazis" it will only embolden Putin and as Boomstick said the whole point of those "neonazi" groups will become moot.

Okay, now that I'm neither exhausted or drunk, I can cease with the stupid. A bit. The above is a link to the creator of the other two youtube links I posted, Perun. Normally, he does videogame content, but his day job is apparently either affiliated with or a part of professional military analysis. They're all very spot on and well laid out. The presentation is dry, but concise and very professional with little if any real bias. He sums up a lot of what we're seeing in Ukraine, lays out facts simply, and backs up his analysis with sources. All in all, I've got much better information about the war from Perun than any news agency. I really do encourage everyone interested to watch the videos, but make sure you have the time, they're all 45+ minutes long.

Also in the absence of those specifics seems like this is less the West arming neo-Nazis and more the West arming Ukraine and the Ukrainian government choosing to arm some neo-Nazis, who they were already arming because they are in the Ukrainian military.

I don't see how being a woman of colour is relevant, but most of the argument was whataboutism - of course there are Nazis in Russia.

What is hopeful is that she pointed out how badly Right Sector and similar groups do in elections. The average Ukrainian wants nothing to do with that shit.
