Bah. She's rescued, hurrah. Do we have to make a major news story out of it?

You know, it'd be a whole lot easier if one of the FORUM'S MODERATORS *coughVympelcough* wasn't doing it too.

Ahahahahahaha  With a corny title like, My daughter, danger. Or My daughters date with danger.
They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong

But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

The only reason they're interviewing everyone who's ever known the girl is because she's in the hospital. As soon as she makes a public statement, THEN the fireworks start. The media will twist her words every which way, using her testimony as either justification or lack of justification for the war. (No, the English major couldn't come up with a better synonym for "lack of justification." Shaddup.) Either way, as was stated before, there WILL be a lifetime movie about her deep emotional involvement with her captor Muhammed, and how this evil war tore them apart. I can see it now: Star-Crossed Lovers Under Fire. Romeo and Juliet meets Rambo in the greatest war-drama / romance flick since Pearl Harbor. Formatted to fit your TV screen and edited for time constraints.

The real question is this: Do we show it on Lifetime or TNT?

"...or lack therof"? :D

The good thing is that we'll get all the overexposer over in a day rather than a week as undoubtedly something else will quickly push it out of the spotlight.

But it was nice to hear some good news.

Lifetime. Pure Lifetime. It's got everything they want: a woman trying to succede at a man's job, a woman in danger, a woman at the mercy of evil men (as a bonus, they're men from a deeply mysogynist culture), battles that will be staged with cheap, half-assed special effects, and a weepy happy ending when she's reunited with her family. They'll be running that bad boy three nights a week.

The thing about this is that it sounds like all of the worst fears didn't come to pass. She was apparently in a civilian hospital and may not have been tortured (beyond have limbs broken, assuming those weren't combat injuries). There's actually some talk of her being released as soon as tommorow. There may be some rather interesting story behind all of this - Perhaps some high-ranking RGFC officer prevented further depravities from being inflicted on her, for example. (For all that they're a regime force they're also uniformed troops and probably despise the Saddam Fedayeen). The depressing thing is anything remotely like that just makes it all the more movie-ready.

True... but think about how TNT would make the movie: Woman is taken hostage in her baggy camo pants and a tight green tank-top, hair pulled back in a tight pony-tail, dirt and blood smeared on her face, in the clutches of the enemy (who obviously try to get her to do lude sexual favors).... bra-less, and apparently a little bit cold....

Our heroine (not "heroin") breaks the crude duct-tape job that binds her hands together with a sharp rock she found on the ground, and systematically disarms / disables / kills her captors, stealing one of their primitive-looking automatic weapons, all the while breasts a-jigglin'. She goes Ramboette and, after killing off most of the Republican Guard, is finally taken captive just before she pulls the trigger on Sadaam himself. She is maimed and tortured to the point of blacking out, the inquisitors trying to get information from her as to the movements of US/UK troops. (During the process of torturing, her camo pants get ripped, and the camera pans to a nice thigh-shot.) Meanwhile, her lover, a marine, slaps together a makeshift rescue squad and goes AWAL to go get her. After the bodycount hits an all-time high (higher then HotShots part Deux,) the marine and whats-her-name reunite in a sweaty, dirty, bloody, passionate, carnal embrace. Top-Gun-esque music plays in the background and credits roll.

...I should DEFINATELY be a director...
