David Warner Passes Away

Post by Eternal_Freedom »

Yeah. Chancellor Gorkon is in Sto'Vo'Kor. Gul Madred is in...wherever they go.

Actor David Warner passes away aged 80

He had a good run, and a remarkable career. It's probably not his best-known work but I remember him best as Captain James Sawyer from the "mutiny/Retribution" Hornblower films.
Baltar: "I don't want to miss a moment of the last Battlestar's destruction!"
Centurion: "Sir, I really think you should look at the other Battlestar."
Baltar: "What are you babbling about other...it's impossible!"
Centurion: "No. It is a Battlestar."

Corrax Entry 7:17: So you walk eternally through the shadow realms, standing against evil where all others falter. May your thirst for retribution never quench, may the blood on your sword never dry, and may we never need you again.

He's seemed old for as long as I've known about him.

Yeah, Hornblower was a good one. As was Ra's Al Ghul in the DCAU as well, always a great performance.

Him as Madred vs Stewart as Picard in "Chain of Command" was a sheer delight, despite the grim subject matter.

Truly unfortunate. He had a presence that commanded attention.
I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."

Thanks to Eternal Freedom for Mentioning 'Chains of Command' until that I had no recollection of who Gul Madred was. The only Cardassians I really remember are Garak and Gul Dukat.

'You're a princess from a society of immortal warriors. I'm a rich kid with issues. Lots of issues.'

'Hey, we both have a Martian's phone number on our speed dial. I think I deserve the benefit of the doubt.'
'You know, for a guy with like 50 different kinds of vision, you sure are blind.'

Gul Madred is nice showing of David Warner's talent though since it's role could have easily fallen flat in the hands of a less talented actor, since Madred has to seem almost reasonable even though he's torturing Picard and is indeed the villain of the piece.

Let's not forget he's also played Bob Cratchet.

The number of roles he's played is too many to count or mention.

Most recently I've heard him as the alternative Third Doctor in some of the Big Finish audio series. I was very surprised to find out that he was apparently in a relationship with his co-star / companion from that series.

He's definitely left a huge legacy of stand-out roles.

I think I remember him best as Jack the Ripper in Time After Time and Dillinger/Sark/MCP in Tron, but he popped up so many times in other movies and TV shows that I can't even keep track of them all. A magnificent character actor.

Seems the actress who played Uhura just died, too.

RIP

I have taken the liberty of starting this thread for Ms. Nichols.

Now I did a job. I got nothing but trouble since I did it, not to mention more than a few unkind words as regard to my character so let me make this abundantly clear. I do the job. And then I get paid.- Malcolm Reynolds, Captain of Serenity, which sums up my feelings regarding the lawsuit discussed here.
