Hatred of the French

"Freedom Fries" is stupid but it is vastly overblown as an indicator of anti-French bias in America. We don't pass laws to prevent French words from being used in our language, and we don't allow French restaurants to be vandalized and destroyed by our citizens. The French do, however.

I'm studying for the CPA exam. Have a nice summer, and if you're down just sit back and realize that Joe is off somewhere, doing much worse than you are.
Foot-in-mouth post...I meant to say, the French DO pass laws to prevent English words from being used, and the French people do vandalize and destroy American restaurants.

Some of them still blame all whites for whats been donne two hundred years ago.Queeb Salaron wrote:Excuse me, but the NAACP was founded as a civil rights group, and civil rights are CONSTANTLY relevant. Because the relationship then affected the relationship between the two nations from there on out. What does Franklin Delano Roosevelt have to do with anything? Again all of that was 40+ years ago. Why do modern Americans complain about the french so much?
There's a really good book called Allies at War that does a decent job of detailing the relationships between the 3 of them and how it might have affected France's postwar policies.
One reviewer put it this way:
I couldn't help but wonder whether a more concilliatory attitude towards De Gaulle by Churchill, and especially, Roosevelt, might have led to a more harmonious postwar relationship between the United States and France during the Cold War. Certainly France's independent foreign policy seems at times designed to be spiteful of U. S. interests; no doubt this is part of a bitter legacy stemming from De Gaulle's difficult relationships with the wartime leaders of Britain and America
"You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours."- General Sir Charles Napier

True, but they are not the members of the NAACP worth listening to. Similarly, Christians have a good bit to say about morality, if you can get past the fundamentalists. Obviously white people today are no more involved in the beatings administered by our ancestors than blacks today were involved in receiving them. This is common knowledge. The idea of reparitions has been largely rejected on this premise.Montcalm wrote:Some of them still blame all whites for whats been donne two hundred years ago.

It may have been FOUNDED as a civil rights group, but the majority of people spouting those letters are hypocritical bigots who keep shoving "it's a black thing, you wouldn't understand" in our faces. Do you see any Asians or Latin Americans in their groups?Queeb Salaron wrote:Excuse me, but the NAACP was founded as a civil rights group, and civil rights are CONSTANTLY relevant. No, after seeing 8 summers of tourists I can say I hate French MEN with a passion, as a reuslt of extreamly rude, insulting tourons who have come through here. Now why their women can be so laid back, no problems here, and flirtatious I don't know.
ohh, Easter, time when those crazy folks come here, and purhaps I will see some more of Les Femmes and Fraulines knocking on the doors to employee housing asking if this is the "Youth Hostel". Opps

Stormbringer, let me ask you a question: how do you react when you see generalizations like that about Americans? After answering that question, please tell me why it's OK to turn around and do it to the French.Stormbringer wrote:Simple as a culture and nation they're faithless allies and thankless friends; they're obnoxious and obstructionist with out being constructive at all, and they have incredibley poor behaviour.NecronLord wrote:I hesitate to ask, but why do so many of you detest the French?

I could say the samething about Americans.Stormbringer wrote:Simple as a culture and nation they're faithless allies and thankless friends; they're obnoxious and obstructionist with out being constructive at all, and they have incredibley poor behaviour.NecronLord wrote:I hesitate to ask, but why do so many of you detest the French?
American tourists are incredibly arrogant, most think they own the world and the rest should bow down to them because they are Americans.
De Gaulle was a pompous ass, no-one liked him, FDR thought that de Gaulle had no manners what so ever.Glocksman wrote:Because the relationship then affected the relationship between the two nations from there on out. What does Franklin Delano Roosevelt have to do with anything? Churchill got so pissed at de Gaulle that he had his office bugged from 1940, and at the time of D-Day, almost had de Gaulle bound in chains and flown to North Africa.

You're right, MOST American tourists are arrogant. But aren't most tourists arrogant? When I went to Toronto, I certainly was not arrogant. I'm not an arrogant person to begin with. You have to look at the individual you're dealing with. If that's how they act normally, that's how they're going to act in another country.Ted wrote: I could say the samething about Americans.

True, and the vast majority of the arrogant American tourists seem to come from Texas...Kelly Antilles wrote:You're right, MOST American tourists are arrogant. But aren't most tourists arrogant?
