Recommendations for a good gaming chair

Post by paladin »

Looking for recommendations for a good gaming chair between $250 to $300. I have a regular office chair which isn't that comfortable for sitting any length of time. I sat in a couple of gaming chairs and really liked have it felt. Wondering if someone has a gaming chair that they use that feels good.

Don't look at me. I sit at the dining room table.

Well, the first thing you should do is avoid anything specifically marketed as a "gaming chair", because they'll charge you a hefty premium for a slightly edgy colour scheme rather than any notable benefits in comfort.

Your best bet is to take yourself down to a decent furniture store and go sit in the floor models until you find one you like that's in your budget. Some things are impossible to judge without a hands-on test.

Replace "ginger" with "n*gger," and suddenly it become a lot less funny, doesn't it?

Often the colour, gamer branding and price increase are the only changes.

Sorry for necroing. Didn't see any other thread about gaming chairs. What do you guys have? Interesting to find out the percentage between simple office chairs and gaming ones.

Frankly, I don't see much of a distinction between gaming chairs and office chairs beyond branding and aesthetics.

I have a Noblechairs Icon, which is falling apart after 6 years of daily use so I'm looking at its successor, the Legend. I actually do live near Overclockers who sells them, and according to one of the guys who works there they've started offering "B" grade versions. Apparently until recently, the manufacturer wouldn't allow the outlet to re-sell chairs that had been returned even if they hadn't actually been used and such chairs were actually destroyed. Which was pretty soul-destroying for those who drew the short straw and for sustainability. Let me tell you, these chairs are heavy, like 30 KG or more

Look on ebay for "Artiss" office chairs.

These are both from an Australian seller so you will probably need to find a seller in your country, but these are decent chairs that won't cost you too much.

I got mine for 80€ on amazon, which calls it 'both' an office chair AND a gaming chair (which seems fair, the only difference between a gaming chair and a basic office chair seems to be back rest height). Had it for 3 years and quite happy with it so far. Had to replace 2 of the wheels but for that price I can live with that.

I had my "gaming chair" phase, which ended during the first COVID lockdown after developing a pilonidal cyst from constant pressure at the base of the spine and bad posture. I was of course partially to blame, but these days I use something very similar to this https://boulies.co.uk/products/ep200-se ... 1302077683

and that works far better for me than your traditional office chair, let alone anything branded as a gaming chair.
Yeah, I've always taken the subtext of the Birther movement to be, "The rules don't count here! This is different! HE'S BLACK! BLACK, I SAY! ARE YOU ALL BLIND!?

My two cents since I was the person that had posted this originally. I have been using a gaming chair for the past two years and I find it to be more comfortable than a regular office chair.
