And you know, the best way to protect V's body would be to send an army of fiends to guard it.

And just cause they took out both groups interested in the gate and then secured it, well, that's just acceptable collateral damage.

I'm wondering if V will ever know what happened when the IFCC fiends get smacked down or if she'll have to spend the rest of her life waiting for the other shoe to drop.

I don't think they'll get smacked down before V's paid off their debt.

Nitram: You -are- beautiful. Anyone tries to tell you otherwise kill them.

No, if the IFCC has higher level support (i.e Asmodeus has said 'go ahead', Anthraxus has said 'sure, why not', and Demogorgon hasn't decided to annihilate them for whatever reason and is stopping Orcus, Grazz't, and Frab'urb'luu from doing the same), then you'd need some pretty powerful beings to pull that off.

They didn't seem that concerned then Tiamat was pissed of at them, in any event.

Has it occurred to you that the fiends 1) likely don't have the full picture and 2) probably think none of the gods know about their plan yet?

Thor's line about having to mind wipe the outsiders with every new world is going to be important. Just don't know exactly how.

I meant not concerned as in 'Oh, the Queen of all Evil Dragon, who is a literal goddess, is angry with us', not 'every deity is scared of this thing and are likely to annihilate us for this'.

All, the pantheons being able to basically mindwipe ALL OF CREATION... that makes some of the old DiceFreaks stuff look insignificant.

Didn't they do a new creation each time? I don't recall a mindwipe reboot

The outsiders being all that's left of Creation after each world is rebooted. Not clear on whether that includes the petitioners, but presumably.

This may not be the first time the IFCC fiends have tried something like this. Them, personally.

True, but you'd think if Fiendish interference became a repeated problem, they'd do something, like bring the Overlords of each of the fiendish species into the act. I can imagine that Asmodeus and Demogorgon would leap at the chance to have that kind of advantage over the other archfiends.

Demogorgon: Oh look, Orcus is trying method 4353-A again..... This is what, the 416th time he's done it?

Yeah telling powerful archfiends about the thing the gods are afraid of on an existential level in hopes that they will help manage the danger of it being exploited seems like a bad idea.

It can destroy them as well. According to all the 'in game' literature I've read, the thought of that terrifies even Archfiends.

It might actually work.

It can destroy them both. But the status quo is the gods on top and the fiends beneath them. The fiends inherently have more reason to roll the dice on changing that than the gods do.

True.

But, (most versions of) Asmodeus wants to do it himself. That might be enough reason for him to prevent fiendish interference.
MIGHT.

Pretty inventive tortures.
Especially the "I see clearly now how things should have gone". That's a nasty torture.

Sticking point is that this plan to bring the archfiends on board in controlling the other fiends is necessarily means giving that information to the fiends most likely to have the ability to take advantage of it and do the things the gods want not to happen. Given what mortals are currently trying to pull off after having been clued in...that doesn't seem like a good bet to me. The evil gods are capable of monitoring the fiends themselves, after all.
