If they did have Security people on the team they would not have come up with Recall because it's a hideous security vulnerability. It's an OS level keylogger with basic security every single malware will be able to turn on because that's expected behavior. And the neat trick is your anti-virus can't flag the program if it turns on because it's in the operation system itself.
Recall is above all the most hideously dumb product to come out of Microsoft in a long time.

Looks like I'm going back to Linux....

I've been on Windows since WfW 3.11 was brand-spanking new! I'm too old to learn a new OS.

Ya, I know the feeling. I’ve been on Windows since 3.1, and MS-DOS 5-6 before that. Had Windows 95, 98, 2000, XP, Vista (quickly downgraded back to XP), 7, 8 and 10. I’ve held off on buying a new computer for a while, and have not been impressed by what I’ve seen so far of windows 11. My office is gradually rolling out Windows 11 and even though the computers are new it’s worse than my old work computer in many respects. And that’s before this stupid recall feature. If this is what I can look forward to I guess I might end up switching to a different OS for personal use after all, despite the learning curve.
I hear that some Linux versions are pretty similar (like Ubuntu)?
Also, I imagine that Mac OS isn’t that different. Apparently the biggest difference is that it focuses on files rather than the applications themselves, no registry etc.?

If IBM weren't so bloody stupid I'd have been on OS/2 Warp since Win95 came out. Hopelessly superior even for Windows apps, but nah, let's give up on it, how much money is there to be made in the home user market.

Mac isn't that bad for general use (I had to use it during my studies) but I've not tried to play games or do anything fancy with it.Tribble wrote: ↑2024-12-23 09:02pm

By the way, does Windows 11 still require you to login with a Microsoft account? Or can you make a local account?
I set my computer up so that the main admin account is purely a local account that I never use. I also have a standard user account for day-to-day stuff.
I don’t want any of my computer accounts linked with a Microsoft account.
