True.

It's also possible they need a little bit of his remains (hence scowering the desert) due to the distance involved, from a Planar point of view.

True Resurrection is NOt a cheap spell in most campaigns.

So I see a few ways this could be going. They might just be planning to exploit the Abyss's more lenient promotion requirements for fiends. They could be doing something weird by promoting him into multiple fiendish hierarchies at once as a lateral move around the usual system. Or they could be planning to rely on whatever artifact Cedric has stored in the Abyss and that whole conversation could mostly be a smokescreen.

All it took for him to finally grow up was to die.

Is that really growth? Say what you will about Nale but he was always capable of planning and giving a shit about his teammates.

Indeed. Nale was a bit more Lawful when it came to dealing with his teammates.

Those down in the pit, trying to escape? All Chaotics, so it's "Me First, Fuck you". Probably every one of them fully expects the others have the same plan -- Get out, walk away, leave the others in the pit to 'die'. They can't or won't work together, because they can't or won't trust each other, and prove it by pulling the one getting out back down, because "he'll betray us once he's out".

I always thought Nales was Lawful Evil (see his set-up of Elan in Riddleport).
That more pragmatic, resourceful evil!

So presumably they can make Nale fiendish enough that he can then be boosted by the McGuffin, all this does seem to make their deniable asset rather less deniable.

If it works then it won't matter much longer.

If not, well. See previous statement about a pan-Evil task force of Loki, Tiamat and Rat kicking down their door.

It is interesting that they say the Device wasn't that efficient, and they actually lost "soul energy" by speeding up the process. Still rather sobering that all the torture done is just "Food for the Gods", more or less.

Wouldn't it be interesting if every plane has the same function, even the good planes? Having fun and being happy also generates the same 'god food' just in a different flavor and all gods need a mix just in different proportions.

That would make a lot of sense, as it is stated rather bluntly that the Gods only survive if they have enough power from their believers.

I can imagine that the torture route is faster then the 'sitting around with the gods' route too.

Plus, while Evil Gods want evil worshippers, I doubt they want to actually spend time with any of them.

Well, maybe the kinky worshipers, but beyond that...
