Fundraiser for Tevar

Post by LadyTevar »

If you wish to help, I thank you.

If you can't, I understand. There's a lot of people I can't help either.

Batteries are expensive. Might it be cheaper to just get a 15 year old diesel guzzler and discard the current car?

The current car was a gift from Martin's parents.
I am currently between jobs. Most cars right now are $6000 for a "15year old gas guzzler", and 10K for GOOD Used car.
Even when I was still working at the library, I did not have enough money for a $300-400/month car payment.

I see. Lots of affection value as well. Yeah, cars are expensive. I was lucky to get mine for $3000, but I've spent more on repairs afterwards. I thought cars were cheap in the US, but it seems they still cost quite a bit.

"Cheap" depends on WHERE in the US.
It also depends on quality, and I can't afford a car that's 'cheap', but breaks down if you drive it over 50miles an hour.
Yes, I'm exaggerating, but if you see a car sitting in a yard or in a store's parking lot with a "For Sale Cheap" sign on it, I'm gonna wonder wtf is wrong that they're selling it, and if it's too expensive for THEM to fix, I know it's too much for me.

Going to a dealership would get a car you know has been inspected and fixed to run, but you'll be paying at least $300/month for it.
And right now, I have no idea how good/bad my credit is.

Everything is getting expensive.

Even in Australia, the price of used cars has exploded.

And for most folks in our income range it requires getting car loans at sometimes extravagant, if not predatory, rates.

I could still use some help, so the GOFUNDME is still running.

I've been gone for awhile with my own, personal stuff so I am just seeing this.

I am getting a new-to-me vehicle in mid-April. When that is done I will have a Toyota Echo I can part with. It gets 35-40 mph and the only thing amiss with it right now is the need for a new muffler.

Several caveats:
It's a 2002, so 24 years old
They never sold many Echoes so some parts can be hard to get. When I had the suspension replaced a few years back I had to order the parts from Japan, they were shipped by boat, and I waited six weeks to get them. Once the parts were here the car was fixed in a single morning. On the upside, you shouldn't need to replace the suspension again for 10-15 years. And while that repair took time it was hella cheaper than a new battery for a hybrid.
It's starting to rust.

Upsides:
Fantastic gas mileage.
Handles well in the mountains - spent quite a few trips going through the Cumberland Gap to visit the in-laws back in the day, in the mountains of Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, and Virginia so it should work just fine in West Virginia.
I'm willing to part with it for an outrageously low price

Obstacle:
Getting it to you. But maybe that could be worked out.

Let's discuss.

Now I did a job. I got nothing but trouble since I did it, not to mention more than a few unkind words as regard to my character so let me make this abundantly clear. I do the job. I'm also going to point out that these past ten years, with aging cars, having two saved my bacon (and job) a couple times because if one wasn't running or in the shop I still had transportation. Just sayin'

I don't have funds but I will soon have an available car. One that is currently running well.

Again, think about it.

MEA CULPA FOR NOT UPDATING THIS

The car did get fixed, it was two (2) batteries in the engine compartment, not the storage battery underneath. Total Cost -- $1100

However, two weeks ago an asshole backed out of a parking spot right into my passenger front bumper beneath my headlight as I was coming down the lane to take another parking spot.
Car is drivable.
My Insurance is talking to Asshole's insurance, asshole is avoiding their calls and never contacted them to say he hit someone. Asshole's insurance is crossing Ts and dotting I's in their procedures to deal with "difficult clients" before paying the damage In Full and probably throwing in a rental while my car's in the shop. I just have to wait for them to finish procedure, and since the car is drivable, I'm ok with that.

However. I quit the Library Dec 15th. It's the end of March and I have yet to get hired for a new job.
I have a 4-page list of the places I've thrown resumes at. I have had three (3) interviews... and had to call each place 2-3 weeks later to find out I wasn't hired, because they didn't have the decency to email or text to tell me.
By end of April, I will have ran out of money to pay bills.

So... the GoFundMe is still running, as it didn't reach total. I have paypal. I am desperate to keep paying my car insurance, credit cards, medications, etc.
