I never use the windows key anyway.
The old IBM Model M keyboards aren't exactly the easiest things to find though. They do make excellent weapons (inside there's a steel plate to reinforce it). What I want to find are the enhanced Model M that had the 3270 function keys on it as well, but those are rare :/

Dell used to make good keyboards, too, but they suck as of late. Keytronic's are decent, and someone makes almost exact clones of IBM's old ones (but they're pricey and include the Windows key)

On the computer upstairs, just some dust and several staples.

Downstairs, food crumbs, and some hot chocolate I spilled on the keys.

Iv never cleaned mine. It looks ok on the outside, but inside it you can hear clumps of stuff rattle around.

There's a bit of lint built up, particularly on the upper rows. There's also a bit of dirt under the keys. Interestingly, some of the keys have begun to wear out. Parts of the numeric keypad are greying out and my down key and spacebar have sunken patches on them from repeated use.
I prepared Explosive Runes today.

I've got an original Model M keyboard. Came with my first computer, I think, which was an old PS/2 55SX. The keyboard has presently outlasted all my old computers. And I like a keyboard that makes lots of ungodly racket. I hate these newfangled keyboards where you have to hit the keys really hard to get any feedback out of 'em. And the keyboard has just accumulated a veneer of varnish from years of use. And using a brush, all I found was lint and hair underneath the keys.

Well, there's some fuzzy stuff starting to come out from between some keys.

My old NEC keyboard from '98 was starting to get pretty grungy... it had a few stains on it that were from food, but just plain looked gross... there was also sticky goo from a couple of spilled drinks, which collected dirt and grime and dust and shed skin... ugh. Fine to use, as long as you didn't look too close at the stain on the face, or... shudder under the keys.

How filthy is my keyboard?

Logs from Boba's diary:

31.03.2003

Today I declared a 1km circle around my keyboard as a biohazardous area.
notes: dig trenches and install barbed wire fences

"Around the keyboard, a perimeter create..."

01.04.2003

The fortification goes well.
Some kids from the neighbourhood have managed to get through the trench line and entered the zone...Haven't seen them since.

02.04.2003

The primary perimeter is ready at last.
This afternoon I was observing the keyboard from a watchtower wit a binocular.
I swear......I swear something was moving amongst the rows...
I've got a bad feeling about this!

03.04.2003

This is Boba's girlfriend.
This morning Boba entered into the zone with a SEAL team to clean his keyboard. Radio communication was lost.
I heard gunfire for a couple of seconds from the direction of the keyboard...and then everything was so silent.
I'm afraid something terrible has happened.

How many times I told him to clean that damned keyboard!!!

My keyboard used to be absolutely filthy. But now I have a black keyboard, and if you can't see the dirt, it ain't there.
And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'

My enter key sticks sometimes.

Lots of hair, crumbs, that black oily gunk that builds up after a while.

I find using those brushes that come with electric shavers helps clear a bit of it out.
