On a lighter note: Pearl Jam fans walkout of a concert after Eddie Veder rants against Bush and the war, then takes a mask of Bush and impales it on a mike stand. Fans booed and yelled for him to shut up then many walked out.

Gunmen attack hospital in Nasiriya:

BBC News

Seems that it's not presently clear if the attackers are militia or looters, or something else.

BBC's Iraq latest: At-a-glance page reports another apparent blue-on-blue tragedy:
1636: The US military is investigating reports of a friendly fire incident involving US ground forces and an F-15 aircraft that left one soldier dead and others missing, US Central Command says.
Has anybody heard anything about this?

I've heard bits and pieces, though I've only heard one dead with several wounded, not missing. It was sounding like one bomb went wide during a battle, and that it landed close to the troops who called for the strike.

I'm getting word that the first Iraqi tank engagement has taken place, with the 3-7th destroying about 10 Iraqi AFV's.

The first Iraqi tank engament against Coalition forces happened in Basra couple days ago when an Iraqi armour unit consisting of twenty tanks attempted an attack against British Challenger 2s, failing miserably.

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- About 2,500 elite Iraqi troops have surrendered to U.S. Marines as coalition forces fight for control of Baghdad's international airport, American military officials say.

Capt. Frank Thorp, spokesman for U.S. Central Command in Doha, Qatar, said Friday the Republican Guard forces laid down their arms between the Iraqi capital and the city of Kut, 160 km (100 miles) to the southeast.

U.S. Central Command said it could not confirm Saddam International airport, less than 20 kilometers from the city center, was under coalition control but told CNN it would be a "key target" as its troops moved into Baghdad.

A British military spokesman said if U.S. forces did seize the airport it would be a "great strategic asset" and would cause the Iraqi leadership "grave concern... the speed, the rapidity and the ease with which it was taken."

"Four miles by two miles -- a large area of land -- good runways, good facilities -- gives us a lot of flexibility of options to utilize that piece of space for future operations," said Capt. Al Lockwood, based at Central Command headquarters in Qatar.

Arabic-language TV networks Al-Jazeera and Abu Dhabi TV said U.S. forces had met strong opposition and heavy shelling. Iraqi satellite television called reports that the airport had been seized "lies."

Sources in Baghdad told CNN's Nic Robertson by telephone that Iraqi citizens living near the airport were ordered to leave their homes and move into the city.

The area around the airport was now a "closed military area," Robertson reported, with the civilian neighborhood nearby almost empty and Iraqi Fedayeen forces mobilized there.

The report came as some Pentagon officials suggested coalition forces might try to isolate Baghdad rather than commit troops to street fighting

Iraqi Minister of Information:

Tonight, Iraq may take unconventional action, or, unconventional operations, nothing to do with the military.

They've denied that they will use WMD's ( ), so the other most likely 'unconventional' means of attack may be suicide bombing...

Dang

just before 10:00 AM another phone report from Arnot. Cyanide and Mustard agents in high concentrations in the Euphrates.

A Reverse Osmosis unit with the Marines was filtering the water out to purify it. In the process, they tested the water before putting it into the filters. Found large concentrations of cyanide and mustard agents. Arnot is getting this from the regimental commander and intelligence officer. Belief is that it was done deliberately to poison the Marines, rather than an attempt to get rid of it. Apparently the agents are so small that they would not be stopped by the reverse osmosis filters, so this is why they've been testing.

[If this is the case, then downsteam water supplies for the civilians will now be endangered]
