Without constant supplies from offworld, Coruscant's population will starve or die of thirst. Even if they formed a temporary alliance with the nearby civs, they wouldn't be able to deliver the neccesary supplies fast enough to hold up its population.Enforcer Talen wrote:coruscant (in the time of phantom menace) is brought to a sun of the same type in the alpha quadrant. what happens?

It would run out of food and power. Its unlikely even an all out effort by the Borg could provide the needed shipping, even if there was sufficient infrastructure in the galaxy to provide the needed resources.
The result would be a major dip in population until a sustainable level is reached. All that floor space combined with some power could allow for pretty extensive farming so the planet could still have trillions of being on it.

Depends, is anything around it also brought over? If so, all the traders strike out and leave anyone without a ship to die.Enforcer Talen wrote:coruscant (in the time of phantom menace) is brought to a sun of the same type in the alpha quadrant. what happens?

if whats brought around it comes along, you have enough battleships to take out the st galaxy. so, just the planet.

I assume that you'll have quite a few SW starships on the ground, even if they are small freighters or fighters. Assuming they send out for help, news of hyperdrive tech. will spread fast and Coruscant will be attacked by everyone in range, desperate to get their hands on this new technology. Their shields might hold off the attack, but without the massive amount of food delivered they wont last long.
Also, are the "sun reflecting satellites" brought along as well? If they aren't what consequences will it have?

I wouldn´t be so sure about that. Don´t they have any preparations for a siege of Coruscant? The planetary shields would only have limited use in this case - a starving population could want to surrender immidiately.Without constant supplies from offworld, Coruscant's population will starve or die of thirst.
Perhaps they use duplicators, so they can hold out at least a few days with minimal rations.
In this case, after realizing what happened, they could put all of their efforts to strip-mine near planets for raw material. If they can ensure the surviving of the population, Coruscant could become the major power in the milky way, if they have time to build up their infrastructure and to arm themselves.

Coruscant can hold itself for 3 months. It said so in the X-Wing books. Surely in 3 months the feddies can deliver some industrial replicators in return for the secrets of hyperdrive. Plus the feddies are do-gooders and they do that kinda thing. Many people near bedrock level die or eat each other.

I wonder where they'd store enough food for three months. And are the X-wing books set after/during the reign of the Empire? In a state of civil war/rebellion, wouldn't they have made preperations for a siege? I just can't see a population supporting the cost of preperation for a three month siege after a thousand years of peace. During war, yes but not in peace time.

Well, Borsk Fey'lya says that Coruscant has enough supplies to last for "many months" in TLC, and that was late in the Thrawn campaign. Coruscant should survive long to cow the rest of the AQ into submission.

The planet does havesome pretty beefed up defences. Look at all the seiges that have taken place to conquer that planet. All of them required massive fleets and crack commando raids to ring the bastard down.

Fair enough, but I still think that no planet that's been at peace for a thousand years is going to have the supplies for a three month siege just sitting there. (although, long life supplies are a possiblity. Prehaps put in during a scare of some sort? How much did the public know about situation before the Clone Wars started?)Slartibartfast wrote:In their refrigerators? Yes Underling, but there is such a thing as being prepared for the worst case senario. Coruscant is the home of the galatic goverment and as such a prime target for any uprising that may occur. The Republican goverment would be really really dumb not to have considered such an occurance.

Worst case scenario after a thousand years of peace? I agree, if they were paranoid enough they might, but the Old Republic just strikes me as being a little relaxed in that area. After so long as an entity, would uprisings be a great concern? It would be like fortifing the capital of a western nation (like England or the US) against a rebellion. I don't think it's about to happen.

Re: through a strange accident
It'd be very much like what would've happened to the planet Trantor in Asimov's Foundation series if the transports were to stop running. A planet like Coruscant isn't going to have a lot of food production capability with all of it's surface area given a hundred times over to housing people. There's a good reason why the place is teeming with freighters and space-ships. Stop the shipments, and order is only going to last as long as there is food in the poorest Coruscanti citizen's refrigerator.Enforcer Talen wrote:coruscant (in the time of phantom menace) is brought to a sun of the same type in the alpha quadrant. what happens?
Telling proof of this is what happens to Coruscant after the Yuzhan Vong take it. You have grand vistas of devastated ruins, and a few hundred survivors in areas of the planet that would've held perhaps a few million at Coruscant's peak. Now yes, the planet was probably slowly depopulating during the time of the New Republic, and was probably depopulating even faster before the Vong finally took over, but you probably can't move that many people (trillions, IIRC) so fast. Even if you packed a ship the size of a Death Star with refugees, you'd be talking millions of trips trying to dump a shitloads of planets who don't have the carrying capacity to take on those refugees.
After the Vong came in, the vast, vast majority of Coruscant's occupants probably starved to death, if they weren't killed in fights over the last caches of stored food. And that's exactly what would happen to Coruscant if it suddenly found itself in the Alpha Quadrant.

Re: through a strange accident
There is the difference in that the Vong had unleashed a good deal of biotech and warriors to cut down the onto the existing population and infrastructure on Coruscant, and any transports trying to take off would have been attacked, so in this circumstance the Coruscant population could probably do better.GrandMasterTerwynn wrote:After the Vong came in, the vast, vast majority of Coruscant's occupants probably starved to death, if they weren't killed in fights over the last caches of stored food. Hmm....if Coruscant is doomed, what is going to prevent its inhabitants with starships to go off-planet to start a new life? Surely the Senate would allow its own citizens to leave the planet. If it came under attack from the various factions in the Alpha Quadrant, it's doomed anyway. I don't think they would attempt to hold off the invaders if they were starving to death. Everyone with starships would most likely flee to the Federation once the word got out that they are the good guys.
