Heres a question. If we capture a live one, could we GM it to be... even larger?
I would hope so. I've always wished that the largest animal would be something cooler than a whale.

It was carrion, how good did they expect it to be? Would you eat roadkill?

Actually Archeteuthis flesh is bitter because of the high ammonia content that helps it float. "Air bladders? We don't need no stinkeen air bladders!"

Pfft, Colossal Squid is better. Yeah, whales are badass like Orcas beating Great Whites up and all plus they're mammals, but a squid, now there's a beast.

A beast whose slightly smaller cousins get eaten by Sperm Whales.

There are stories of Giant Squid raping Sperm Whales and Orcas as well though, even predators get beaten. :P

While Im still waiting for a Meg to show up, Il settle for a fucking massive squid to keep me from the sea.

I really wish someone would do some serious exploring of the Mariana Trench...there must be some weird shit down there...

Meg? That movie with the giant shark? BTW, does anyone have any info on that?

Just that they were enormous (60 foot) sharks that probably dined on whales. Their teeth look almost exactly like oversized Great White teeth, maybe a close relative?
As for the Mariana Trench, I doubt there's anything huge down there. I'm sure there's shocking discoveries waiting, but no 100 foot sharks or bus sized crabs. Not enough food for something that big that deep.
I saw an experiment off the coast of California where they weighted down and sank the corpse of a Humpback whale in a *very* deep trench.
There was still flesh on it a YEAR later, nothing big cares for dead whale that deep, or it doesn't exist in the first place.

Some squid neurons have axons over a millimeter thick. How cool is that?

Does that mean that they have increased sensitivity? Or reaction speed? Because theoretically, more electricity can travel faster through a larger medium. You'd think that'd improve reaction time.

Maybe squids should drive funny cars. :)

Increased speed, though there are limits to how thick an axon can get, the nodes of Ranvier actually mean more to nerve function than thickness.
