Probably on his way to Russia,if what i heard is true he may be hiding in the Russian embassy or left with the Russian diplomatic convoy. :?

I just want to echo this sentiment. I've thought this from day one.

It's not paranoia. The Russian's have a long standing relationship with Saddam Hussien.

And it wasn't a debate. It was commentary.

Actually, that's the Soviets.

As did the United States and the French. You don't see me claiming he's hiding among a American/French diplomatic convoy to escape to America/France.

The man's a brutal dictator and would be

a- useless to anyone
b- a major embarassment and international fiasco

To suggest that Russia would take him in is quite frankly, stupid.

Thing is, the Russians have nothing to gain from helping him. On the contrary, at this stage, any nation that gives "asylum" to Saddam is stepping into the pariah category.

I know, but I wanted to argue the point, because I saw the thread expanding :)

Saddam Hussein sees himself as a great Arab leader- Saladin is the name I most often here, but whatever. I don't think he'll flee anywhere- that's if anyone will have him.

Well, we can rule China out, because of the terror connection(perhaps they might offer him asylum in exchange for intel? Hmm...). Ditto for France.

Russia also has nothing to gain, so that rules them out. Iran would shoot him on sight, after what he did in the Iran-Iraq War.

If Saddam is still alive, he's probably trying to get to Syria.

Saddam is in among the other cockroaches that are now scattering when we turned on the lights in the kitchen.

You know, I always thought that the US DIDN'T condone assasinating people. And last time I checked, a restaurant wasn't a target worthy of bombing...

I believe North Korea stated that it would accept him if he went into exile at some point. That’s his best bet. Really, nowhere else would both accept him and be able to resist handing him over for political and military reasons.

But then he might still be in the city, the US Army already found one multi mile tunnel, I'm sure he has others to escape through.

Wrong. The extent of the executive order that political leaders wont be assassinated in peacetime. Saddam however holds the rank of field marshal and is commander and chief of the Iraqi armed forces, making him fair game regardless of how the conflict is classified.

Hm. Good to know. Thanks.

And I guess if all else fails, he's just a soldier like the rest of them. Of course, by the same token, our enemies could drop a bomb on the white house and not be guilty of any war-crimes, right?

I thought before the war some Middle Eastern countries said they would take him. Or was that Bin Laden? I think it was Saddam.

I think that Jon Stewart described our effort to kill Saddam best when he said it was a "whack-a-mole" approach.

The US President holds no active military rank. But it's not a war crime to kill a national leader anyway. It is a US presidential executive order that constrains the US military, and any president can rescind it. Other nations are not so constrained.

Don't think we'd charge them with war crimes -- we'd just invade the country of whoever was responsible, destroy their military, and rebuild that country in our image. When you're a little dog, it ain't smart to nip the heels of the largest dog on the block...

The problem most non-americans have with the US' military might is that in enables them to do pretty much everything they want.
They feel like they're just living at the mercy of the the US (and they're probably not entirely wrong).

Edit: changed a bit for more clarity.
