Well, what do you expect from somebody who worship a god that creates animals by lumping together LEGO and pumpkins?

From the article:
Before the emergency hysterectomy was carried out, the couple were advised by doctors that a blood transfusion would be necessary and could make the difference between life and death.

However, they both said no and a form was filled out to say no blood products were to be used during treatment because of their religious faith.

After the surgery Mrs Edema was placed on a dialysis and a life support machine in the intensive care unit, where she died on the Thursday at 12.40am.

In a statement recalling the events that led up to his wife's death, Mr Edema said: "I am now left alone on a strange terrain to cater for my two daughters as a single parent. All my wife's ambitions and inspirations have been nipped in the bud. Can my life be the same again?"
Fucking stupid Jehovah's Witnesses. This guy is complaining now about the tragedy, yet he signed a form stipulating that no blood products were to be used even after having been warned it might kill her? I don't mean to sound unsympathetic, but frankly, she deserved what she got, and he deserves to be left alone and miserable. My only sympathy is with their first daughter, who must now grow up without a mother because of their fucking religious stupidity.

Once again the naïv beliefs of human beings leave me speechless due to their incredible stupidity.

It's a wonder hospitals even bother with these people, they obviously don't want the latest medical science to be used.

This is one of those instances that makes me really, really mad. Because in this case, while a couple of idiots got theirs, perfectly innocent people are caught in the crossfire and are bound to suffer because of it.

Stupid bitch. Now her child will have to grow up without a mother because she was so fucking selfish so as to ignore the possible needs of her children and family.

I would be interested in finding out what part of the Bible (or Book of Mormon) they felt was against their using a blood transfusion.

According to Skeptic's Annotated Bible it's Genesis 9:4
But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat.
Apparently JWs consider blood transfusions to be a form of "eating blood" and forbidden by God.

That has to do with actually consuming blood from animals -- i.e. drinking it from a cup or something to that effect. Those folks are badly misinformed.

Don't get your religions confused. Only the Mormons (and a few of that church's splinter groups) use The Book of Mormon. The JWs are strictly just the Bible.

To make things worse, the religion's publications (Watchtower or Awake) will undoubtably praise the guy for his great faith and sacrifice and use this incident to continue urging "the faithful" in this absurd behavior: "Look, this guy held true to the faith and sacrificed. So can you."

Did anyone else find the irony in this last paragraph? YOU DECIDED SHE WAS GOING TO DIE! You brought it on yourselves. Let's hope all that Jesus talk you spew from your fundie mouths is true, because if not you signed her death warrant for no reason at all.

What I want to know is this: If they're going to stop doctors from saving lives, what's the point of going to a fucking hospital in the first place? What, are you afraid that birthing your child yourself would be too dangerous? Yeah, hell of a way to show a regard for human life! Are you afraid that natural childbirth is too painful? Oh, so the DRUGS are good enough to put in your body, but BLOOD isn't? SOMEONE tell me they see the ridiculousness of this situation.

Thanks for the correction. I often get confused between the two. I know that the JWs do tend to use a different Bible version than all others...

The JWs have their own translation of the Bible which is pretty damn bad. The real reason the JWs call their Bible the "New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures" is because their "translation" is sooo bad that I believe copyright laws prohibit them from using the term "Bible" in the title.

The Book of Mormon is a completely different book with different stories, not an "alternate translation" of the Bible.

Quite right, you are. I attended the Combined Arms Services Staff School (CAS cubed) at Fort Leavenworth years ago, and my next door neighbor (we shared a kitchen and bathroom) was a Mormon (or Latter-day Saint), and he have me a Book of Mormon. I told him I'd read it some day, but I still haven't got around to doing so...

The founder of the Mormon church was a white-supremacist, whose dogma that white people are closer to God and that "whiteness" is spiritual cleanliness persisted up until the late 1970's. Coincidentally enough, the "latter-day saints" suddenly realized that white-supremacism was bad at the same time that the IRS was cracking down on white-supremacist religious and academic organizations and removing their tax-exempt status.

It's funny, 'cuz even in Massachusetts they're still White Supremacists. There's one black family in my neighborhood (Classism at work) and every time the CoJCoLS comes around, they always have something to say about "that black family at the top of the hill," and, "gosh do they smell funny!" and "their house isn't NEARLY as big as the other ones around here." Neither of those is true. I happen to be very good friends with that family, and they're PERFECTLY nice people, though devout Christians. By contrast, they never have anything to say about the white family next door to us that makes a habit out of pestering the Mormons.

I am good friends with a lot of Mormons. As a rule, they are no more discriminatory than you or I.

Not to dispute that there are crazies out there, but lumping all Mormons in that category is probably somewhat extreme.
