Well, let me add some of my resume then to further my case a little.....
RP Admin for the Star Wars Combine for many moons, which meant I was in charge of the RP message boards and all the joy that went with it(active membership was ~2k at the time)......as well as being the longest serving chat admin there (sole survivor of some op wars) and also the Chariman of the Senate (in its first incarnation there) which served in a sort of mod role over the admins there.

I beg to differ Stormy... It's a dictatorship. Mike's in control, and he's the only Admin. He could remove all the mods, because he's in control. He's merely delegating authority, like anyone smart would do when facing such a huge task as managing this board

Well, I probably wont get it, due to the fact that quite a few people seem to mistake me for being some kind of frothing psychopathic jerk.
But it'd be nice to be a mod. I promise to be on my best behavior: gentle and brutal all at once.
EDIT: And I have almost an infinite amount of freetime.

I'll apply.
I'm current a co-admin on the forums at www.annihilated.com, but that place is practically dead.
Unfortunatly I havent much involment with STGODs before, but I've got a good idea of how it all works.
And I've got a fairly large amount of free time

You know, there's probably room for more than one mod for this forum, considering the traffic it will likely get with the TGODs, and the game threads

You know, I'd do something about this obvious display of Evil(tm), if it wasn't for the facts that 1) I am Evil. Evil. I can read Darkstar's site without any brain damage. and 2) I'm but a minion still, even with my dark powers.Darth Wong wrote:Yes, I forgot to give the supermods power over this forum. On a more serious note, I am also willing to co-mod.
I don't know all of you that well, and I imagine that some of view might have some concerns about me suddenly deciding that I want to mod. First of all, I can assure you that the decision was not sudden. I have been posting here for some time now and I feel that a small moderatorial role would help in gaining a deeper understanding of this board as a whole. That's what I hope to get out of it.
What I can offer as a mod is essentually a thread cleaning service. The key is neutrality. In ASVS I've been a neutral for almost as long as I've been posting there. You have to work quite hard to get on my bad side, but that's not to say I couldn't be tough on wasted badnwidth should the need arise. What I wont do however is edit a legitimate post, with the exception of dressing up links and perhaps inlining images when there's several of them totaling over 150k to keep the 56kers happy. As for the definition of a legitimate post, or thread, it's usually not too dificult to guage public reaction to it as a test of its legitimacy. Notable exceptions of course are threads of spam. If the thread's not too big I like to give it a chance to get back on topic before closing it.
So basically if you're looking for a mod that keeps a fairly neutral mindset then I'd be happy to take up the position.
One last thing, I hate fighting. I'm not good at it and I derive no pleasure from it whatsoever. If someone has a problem with something I've said or done then I'd much prefer that it was settled amicably over PMs then have threads disrupted because of it. A strong argumentative nature might be good for STvsSW or perhaps Politics, but I believe that this forum should be restricted to gaming discussion. I say zero tolerance for flame-wars in the gaming forum.
edit: Phong would be the person I'd like to work with as a mod if there's going to be more then one.

Bah, too strict. Lets have fun goddamnit! TGODs for all, and for all a good night I say. Just look at the "I leave for two hours" thread, I'm kickin' ass! Thats the kind of ass that needs to be kicked around here. Thats a service I provide.

Of course it needs to be fun. That's what this forum is all about. The only thing is that we have to acknowledge the fact that Mike's bandwidth isn't infinite.
In the case of your thread, I'd allow it as long as it didn't grow to enormous proportions. In the case of TGODs I'd leave them alone unless there was something seriously wrong with them.

You're definitely going to need at least two mods in this forum, possibly three. And you're going to need mods capable of being flexible, because in a TGOD, there's a fine line between meaningful posts and spam, but at the same time willing to use his (her?) powers, because if not, this forum is going to turn into a spamfest. The mods don't necessarily have to be veteran RPers, just willing to work with the STGOD umpires. At least one mod should spend most of his time just with the TGODS and leave the other mods and the supermods to handle regular forum traffic.
Also, a policy question: do sports count as gaming, or do sports threads stay in OT?
EDIT: If I were the moderator, here's a rough outline of my policies...in regular threads, the same rules apply as in the other forums. If a thread goes long because the topic has drawn lots of responses or triggered a debate, it stays open. Likewise, if it goes long because the topic has evolved one or more times, it also stays open. Threads that have run their course and turned to spam, or threads that started as spam to being with, get locked. Flamewars (though I can't imagine a flamewar erupting in this forum when there's so many other forums to chose from) waste bandwidth--I'll lock 'em up and ship them off to the HOS. Though my definition of flamewar is pretty narrow: I'll allow very heated discussions to continue, so long as new posts are introducing new points or clairfying old ones. Pointless hammering on one person's wall of ignorance gets HOSed. I have no patience for trolls and will happily eject them from the forum.
TGODs, by their nature, run long and the definition of "on topic" is very loose. If they devolve into chatting, they've run their course. Also, cybersex is verboten (I'm looking at a certain Quake player here)--take it to PM if someone wants to roxor your soxors. And while I wouldn't enforce and particular style of TOGDding, if everyone else in the TGOD is complaining that one member isn't TGODding correctly in a TGOD thread and not trying especially hard to improve (especially ASVS longtimers who've TGODded before), I'd delete those posts. I'd also say that we should consider limiting the number of TGODs allowed to be going at any one time, but that would be a question for the whole board to decide.
STGODs are a special case. I can't see myself running one personally. If a non-mod is umpiring one, I'd defer to him in nearly all cases. Umpires of STGODS would be, in effect, pseudomods--for the most part, their requests to have posts deleted or tangents split would be honored without any questions asked. The rules they set in the beginning would be law, and they'd have the exclusive right to change them in midstream if they thought it would improve game balance. Players that don't like it would be free to quit. If another forum mod or a supermod is running an STGOD, then obviously, I'd leave it alone.
It would NOT be up to me to deal with any disputes arising in TGODs, structured or not, only to make sure that those disputes don't devolve into flamewars. Players who constantly whine and bitch and spoil other people's fun will recieve a free ride to the HOS. Again, in STGODs, the umpire is God--whining about the rules to me will be futile and if done in public, will earn you scorn and a trip to the HOS. Even if the umpire of an STGOD is an absolute tyrant, he's the boss of that thread. Of course, tyrannical umpires probably won't find too many people to play their next game, so keep that in mind.
