There are transporters and better cloaks.

Isn't impluse a little faster than an ion drive?

You just put an awful thought into my head... *purges memory*
Ah, much better. :)

Back on topic, ST does have marginally better medical technology, but it was mentioned in several reference books that SW does have facilities that are comparable to holodecks. Other than the little bit of first aid tech, SW out ranks it in everthing. 8) :P

Star Trek has James Tiberius Kirk, who has the most powerful character shield in sci-fi history.

I hear SW has transporters too... :?:

Better cloaks? Depends on whether SW scanners can detect phase-cloaked ships... the only place where SW cloaks lose to ST cloaks is that the ship can't see out of the cloak.

Trek's real advantage seems to be in its ability to use unconventional tactics, on-the-fly. Of course, this might just be a side effect of the technology being unstable and unreliable...

No, he doesn't. That goes to Zim, or maybe Gir.

Better than SW, which includes the archetects of the Corellian System and the Maw, and the Whills.
Dyson Sphere is a little more impressive then the architects of the Corellian System.

OK, Kirk doesn't have the most powerful character shield of all sci-fi, but certainly one of the most powerful. Don't forget the majority of superheroes, who in a fashion are walking character shields.

Nah, that doesn't count--it's within the stated capabilities of the superheroes to survive most of the crazy things that get thrown at them.

I'm guessing Mr. Bean in the new J something 007-mimic would have one of the strongest character shields ever

Dyson Sphere is a little more impressive then the architects of the Corellian System.
I disagree. The Dyson Sphere simply requires two things: Strong structure and plenty of time to build it.

The construction of the Corellian system, however, required the design and construction of a system designed to move planets across many lightyears.

What's more impressive: Building a 100-story skyscraper, or moving a 20-story skyscraper across the country, intact?

More like building a 10,000 story skyscraper or moving a 2 story building across the country. The Dyson Sphere dwarfs anything any Star Wars. Hell, the thing is so freaking huge that it could hold an entire galaxys population within it. Imagine Coruscant multiplied by a billion times.

Well, when MOST people say this

What they all too often mean is merely: Does the AQ have any advantages over the Empire?

There aren't many that are strategically valuable, but if you just want any advantage ... well...

There's the cloak. You could say that it merely has a different set of advantages and disadvantages, but because of the enormous disparity, any surprises to the Empire will slow them up. For instance, a ship with a cloak that could be seen through will allow some element of surprise - maybe enough to drop all of TWO photorps on a hull. Which is better than what they could get using a frontal attack.

The SW however, has so many fundamental advantages that a cloak loses a good bit of its utility. It does not need to hide - it can blast past anything. In fact, all a cloak of their design does to them is blind them and reduce the potency of their fire.

A transporter ... well ... I'm sure there would be ONE time when it'd come in handy. There ought to be a time when the Imperials would take their jammers down for maintenance, and there wouldn't be too much natural interference

Warp drives do have a small tactical advantage over hyperdrive.

Remember, basically, anything that's DIFFERENT would cause surprise and confusion to the Imperials and slow them up by just a few seconds. The Empire got so many advantages that any further special advantages it has becomes less useful. Who cares, for instance, if Star Wars has a Warsobabble way to get more power out of their drives - the normal power is already so far over the Federation's power!

Of course. Let's face it; when you pit one sci-fi series against another, you are normally referring to primary protagonist or antagonist groups.
The cloak would be a surprise the first time they use it. Countermeasures would come quickly, however, and the minute a cloaked ship starts moving, they'll pick up its superheated exhaust gases.
The SW however, has so many fundamental advantages that a cloak loses a good bit of its utility. It does not need to hide - it can blast past anything. In fact, all a cloak of their design does to them is blind them and reduce the potency of their fire.
SW cloaks are defensive, not offensive.
A transporter ... well ... I'm sure there would be ONE time when it'd come in handy. There ought to be a time when the Imperials would take their jammers down for maintenance, and there wouldn't be too much natural interference
Given the well-documented inability of transporter beams to penetrate heavy metals, it's highly doubtful that they can beam through the unshielded hull of an ISD. They could beam through windows, though.
Warp drives do have a small tactical advantage over hyperdrive.
At the cost of an extreme strategic disadvantage. I wouldn't use that as an example of an advantage.
Remember, basically, anything that's DIFFERENT would cause surprise and confusion to the Imperials and slow them up by just a few seconds. The Federation's best advantages seem to be in the holographic imaging and certain medical fields (particularly cosmetic surgery), which are neat but would not keep even a miniature remnant Empire from easily steamrolling them.

A black hole cluster must be many light years in size and very uniquely and perfectly constructed in order for the gravitational forces and whatever hypertechnology holds it together to make it stable.

this is the biggest cope out in Sci-Fi history. We lost the Battle so lets go back in time and try it again. If they do succeed in changing the outcome did the original battle happen in the first place? If they caused a victory then they couldn't have gone back in time to change history cause the loss that parcipitated the victory didn't happen but if they didn't go back in time then the victory didn't happen....
