Forgotten Realms has some decently powerful people. Elminster, who has survived a few trips through various kinds of Hell, bitchslapping everything in his path. Karsus, who slew a deity in her prime(And how many Gods has the Culture killed...? Exactly). Ao, master of the dimensional set that encompasses Alber-Toril, it's universe, and it's attached cosmological planes(Outer, Inner, Astral, Ether), and of course, Ao's boss....

If you want to get into roleplaying games as well, Rifts has some pretty nasty stuff. You have to love the mega-damage weapons, where light body armor and a laser pistol would make you unstoppable by 20th century technology.

I'd think that a lot of sci-fi races would be hard-pressed to stop the Shrike if it was rampaging at will through their worlds. The other would be Jack Chalker's Wellworld novels... all of reality is maintained by one giant super-computer in those books, so you could just cancel out whatever offending race is giving you trouble.
Good point. I recall that most of the TechnoCore's badass forces (Shrike and the humanoids that followed) were from the 42nd century or thereabouts.

However, I was wondering how you would compare the Hyperion Series' 2 human empires with each other. First is the Hegemony of the 29th century (Hyperion, Fall of Hyperion); then there is the Pax - the Neo-Catholic dictatorship of the 32nd century (Endymion, Rise of Endymion), which rises out of the ashes of the ruined Hegemony. Both cultures have their strengths and weaknesses, with the Hegemony's greater hyperspatial speed and the Pax's jump-capable missiles. The Hegemony fleet was also described as being able to wipe out entire systems in one operation if necesary. The UFP and Starfleet would last a few hours (hopefully), and the Galactic Empire would be badly stung (even if they do win in the end).
