I've heard this so many times...
So I have a few comments to make

1st the borg...
Take over one SW ship, and now the borg kick there sorry ass's after dapting to turbolasers...
warp drive is SO much better than hyperdrive, you can fly along a ships hull at warp dropping photon trops on them...
Good bye Thrawn...
And the romulans would just inflitrate there goverment, and take them over, or sign a sneeky deal.
And photon trops move at warp, so they can be fired from far away, and blast of thoses defletor towers, and that nice shny bridge viewport.
All they need a a tatical man like me...
Adn the empire loses, sadly I love the empire, and would help it kick the feds ass anyday..
So I wonder who wins,
:)

The Borg cannot adapt to kinetic energy (and would be hard pressed to even take over an ISD); when have we EVER seen this warp/photorp maneuver (especially considering that they'd have approximately .00005 seconds to HIT a typical ISD before overshooting it); Thrawn would wipe the floor with ANY Trek Admiral except perhaps Kirk; Romulans would have an awful hard time sneaking into a government of humans; prove that photorps move at warp; those are sensor globes, not deflector towers, and Fed ships would be hard-pressed to take down an ISDs shields long enough to hit the bridge.

The warp trop tatic was part of a bit of ST/SW fanfic I read...
it details the fall of the federation to the empire...
Quite funny.
The borg won't need a SD, what about a TIE, all they need is a mind, and what about assimalting Thrawn of his bridge?
I seem to remeber photon tor us kentic engry...
The borg cope with them...
Anything else?

The Borg assimilated countless Feds (AND Picard - as Locutus) and STILL got their asses kicked.
The Admiral wrote:I seem to remeber photon tor us kentic engry...
No, they use m/am annihilation to produce the explosive effect, and we know from Star Trek Generations that they use frequency-based modulation on their weaponry (how the BOPs torps passed THROUGH the E-D's shields).
The Admiral wrote:The borg cope with them...
Based on freq adaption. Besides, you can't adapt to 200GT of energy being shoved in your face. The Borg can only adapt to so much energy before it overwhelms their capabilities (that pesky Conservation of Energy principle).

Ps, though the do have one advatage, the feds are all diplomates, so they could convince the rebels to join them, then use the federation as a rebal out post,,
That might work?

Doubtful. Fed tech couldn't even take out S8472 - they defeated them only by using a plot device (engineered virus) which wouldn't even be guaranteed to work against the Vong.

Did you read the site? You know, the 'I Want YOU for the Galactic Empire' one that you get by clicking the big Stardestroyer.net banner on top of the page?

If you're new, start out with the Star Wars vs Star Trek in Five Minutes page. Also reading up the other essays can also describe how we like to approach things in these debates.
Ps, though the do have one advatage, the feds are all diplomates, so they could convince the rebels to join them, then use the federation as a rebal out post,, That might work?
1. Diplomats maybe, but not con artists.
2. There has to be a reason for the rebels to use it as an outpost. If the Empire is busy crushing the Feds, there would be little reason to remain in Federation territory. An underground resistance movement has to be careful who it speaks to.
3. The Rebellion, while outgunned by the Empire actually seemed to have maintained falacities that could at least maintain technological parity with the Empire.

This is the typical Trekkie grade stuff. Let me just say that everything has LIMITS, as one can easily see in ST:FC. Considering previous exposures, they are probably about as well adapted to photorps and phasers as they could possibly be, AND they still lost. Of course, then there is the KE problem.

Warp strafing doesn't work, period. Technical difficulties and the episodes always seem to kick themselves in their own asses. I'd explain why they let them do it in FanFics in the appropriate section.

Go watch ST:FC. Watch the speed of photorps.

Infiltration. Well, granting that the Romulans could even GET to the appropriate places to infiltrate using snail speed warp drive ... maybe fifty years from now, it'd be a factor. But that's a little late for the Federation and its neighbors.

I won't say anything about those domes. Too much has been said on them.

I seriously suggest that you do not take a FanFic too seriously for your technical data. There are about two types of FanFic.
1) Those written by people without adequate research, so these mistakes are common. After all, at an EXTREMELY cursory glance, warp strafing might just work.
2) People that have done the research and realize that if they want the Federation to even be able to put up a fist, they have to give them some unwarranted advantages. To do that, you can give them more capability to begin with or you can force-feed a string of miracles in the Empire's way. Personally, the second method is more blatantly obvious and less well thought of than the first, though I do occasionally comment more favorably on a good save :D

Which one were you reading anyway. The fact that the Federation loses in the end suggests strongly that the author is in the "2" category. Is it by Michael January? :D

They need a lot of minds to understand fully how the Empire works. And forget about Thrawn. Who would send their best military genius to Backwater Conflict Region with Ultra-Primitive and Weak tech?

Photorps ... watch ST:FC again.

There's a chance, but there are still some pretty big hurdles. Everybody has some diplomatic ability (and some leadership ability ... tactical ... virtually any kind of ability)

First is the insurmountable problem of actually REACHING a Rebel and starting negotiations. In the most common invasion scenario, the Imps would be coming through some kind of wormhole. You would have to reach the wormhole, get past, reach a planet, communicate, get to know some Rebels ... etc, all on worm-speed warp drive.
The Admiral wrote:Yes the rebles, one, the the YV invaded, and kicked there sorry asses, and now they lost courscant,

Not likely.

Admiral
Or they might get sucked in. If they could avoid the basals, NDF effect should give them some advantage over organic hulls.

The problem is that their defense is too weak. So they might be HURTING the Vong ships, but the Vong are MASSACRING their fleet.

Phasers are continuous beam weapons. A typical starship would need to concentrate more than one emitter on a dovin basal, then follow up with a photon torpedo.

And since Trek shields are apparantley graviton based, buh-bye shields....

Actualy we have proof that Trek has two different types of Time Travel. Some is dimension hopping to similar time lines, some is staying within their own timeline. The 29th Century Federation can time travel on the same time line and they use Temporal Shields to prevent time changes from affecting their ships.
