A Dad and his Mech, or How to make your kids happy
'Ai! ai!' wailed Legolas. 'A Balrog! A Balrog is come!'
Gimli stared with wide eyes. 'Durin's Bane!' he cried, and letting his axe fall he covered his face.
'A Balrog,' muttered Gandalf. 'Now I understand.' He faltered and leaned heavily on his staff. 'What an evil fortune! And I am already weary.'

On the note of real-build mechs, here's a corporate-built one for the Heavy Gear series:

And this is why you don't watch anything produced by Ronald D. Moore after he had his brain surgically removed and replaced with a bag of elephant semen.-Gramzamber, on why Caprica sucks

Lol, that is really cool though, there must be a total nerd behind that capentry facade.
You do know that Gundam mobile suits are about 60 feet tall, right? That gear is less then 20 feet standing at full height.
I believe in a sign of Zeta.

I think he was talking about the 38% scale Mad Cat. The Gear's less than 15 feet (4.1 meters). The 'Cat looks to be about 18-20 feet tall. The body is taller than the builder, and the 'Cat's body only cleared the garage by an inch. 30 feet of steel was used, allowing for ~ 10' legs (given that the frame the body sits on appears to be steel as well). If we assume a 8' garage, this give a 17'11" mech. Also, the feet are sunk three feet in the ground, so whatever height might be determined by the top photograph is three feet smaller than the total construction.Spanky The Dolphin wrote:A little?!SyntaxVorlon wrote:What he couldn't spend a little and make a gundam?!

If trees could scream, would we be so cavalier about cutting them down? We might if they screamed all the time for no good reason.

Damn frivilous laws that keep kids from being kids. Dangit if I didn't fall out of my tree house and bust my ass a couple times, but, it taught me a few things, like not to try to jump down the ladder....
Just shows the soccer mom overprotectiveness mindset that is infecting the country. Dang, I rode a bycycle when I was a kid *gasp* without a HELMET!
As I said, getting my butt busted a few times taught me really quick not to do stupid things.

I'm waiting for Shep to drive by in a King Tiger, blow the legs off the fort, and then lecture the crying children on how much mechs suck ass.
If Religion and Politics were characters on a soap opera, Religion would be the one that goes insane with jealousy over Politics' intimate relationship with Reality, and secretly murder Politics in the night, skin the corpse, and run around its apartment wearing the skin like a cape shouting "My votes now! I remmber seeing a pic of a guy who built a 1/3 scale Gundam Zeta. The Dark wrote:I think he was talking about the 38% scale Mad Cat. The Gear's less than 15 feet (4.1 meters).
