I'm studying for the CPA exam. Have a nice summer, and if you're down just sit back and realize that Joe is off somewhere, doing much worse than you are.

I'm surprised Brazil is so low down the list, one of its main defense company's went bankrupt and nearly collapsed when the Iran-Iraq war ended.

Queeb you've redeemed yourself. You can eat on me any time you come down to FL now that you've quoted by favorite black humor nihilistic flick.

Yeah, people are mistaking USSR policy for an acceptable minimum standard. I don't know what France was hoping to gain but China's not exactly someone whose standards should be lowered to either. Everyone knows they're bad, they've had their condemnations, this does not give the US licence to follow in their footsteps. It would be like someone accused of murdering 50 people with an axe pleading innocent on the grounds that someone else managed to score an order of magnitude or two higher. This is wrong because
1: It doesn't make any fucking sence
2: The guy that killed 50 still needs to be punished

Yet those are the three nations on the UNSC that were against regime-change as a consequence of Iraqi intransigence on the WMD issue. The US and UK are justified in pointing to these figures, and claiming that they prove that the three nations' vested interests were influencing their judgement. Would you support the judgment a judge in the trial of a mafia don who is known to have a business relationship with the accused?

 Fair enough, though Russia is supposed to still be owed oil for those arms transfered when the USSR was in existance.

Owed oil? It's owed cash- Russia has plenty of oil on its own- you might mean contracts for developing oil in the country though. Bush could have easily gotten Russia's support or at least an abstention in the vote if he had guaranteed they payment of Iraq's debt to Russia, and it's oil interests.

 You're right, though Iraq was unable to pay the debt due to UN controls on the selling of their oil, so it comes to "sort of" the same thing in the end.

So, the French supplied 13% of Iraq's weapons? No wonder they were so easy to defeat.

I don't think you'll find any of the weapons France supplied were used in the war- the overwhelming majority of it was aircraft and helicopters that didn't fly in the conflict, or anti-tank missiles that definitely weren't used- possibly because their service lives were expired.

But, bash the French for being a bunch of tossers if you like, but their modern military hardware is extremely good.

Personally, I still wanna see proof of the idiot claim that the Russians had supplied the Iraqis with 500 Kornet-E anti-tank missiles.

Much of the French and German opposition for the war is pretty basic: They can't afford to support it. You see, as a part of the conditions to use the Euro, EU countries have to keep their fiscal spending in check, and can't go above a certain percentage of GDP in deficit. With the economy bad, they can't afford to spend money to help support a war in Iraq. Of course, now that the war is over, they want a slice of the pie when it comes to rebuilding contracts, since we're talking about millions, possibly billions for corporations involved.
