Pills or Therapy

Post by Yogi »

Let's say that you are in a bit of a crisis. You feel that your life is going nowhere, that you are insecure and don't know what to do, that you have been wasting your life up to this point etc. etc. blah blah. You go to see a psychologist and he gives you two choices.

1) To get to the bottom of the matter through several sessions of psychotherapy.
2) To take some pills that will make you feel all right again.

Assume the two cost the same. Which would you choose?
I am capable of rearranging the fundamental building blocks of the universe in under six seconds. I shelve physics texts under "Fiction" in my personal library! I am grasping the reigns of the universe's carriage, and every morning get up and shout "Giddy up, boy!" You may never grasp the complexities of what I do, but at least have the courtesy to feign something other than slack-jawed oblivion in my presence. I, sir, am a wizard, and I break more natural laws before breakfast than of which you are even aware!

Therapy. Better to actually cure the problem then ignore it...

I'd go with Therapy. Less chance of side effects, and like Innerbrat said, it's better to confront the problem than suppress it.

Therapy to fix the actual problem.

Unless the problem is a chemical imbalance or some biological thing, then you would need medication.

Pills it is. I've never really trusted psychiatry to be worth its salt.

Chemistry, on the other hand....

I still do both. The therepy is helping me through it. The Prozac stops me from ending it.

Therapy. My dad completely fucked up his life with prescripted pills. I would to avoid turning out like that.

Tried therapy....trouble is I'm too smart for my own good....though surely someone else out there can appreciate the fun in analyzing the anlysis of you the psych people are doing......

Though I dont think they liked the fact I knew more about cognitive behaviour models than them.....

I'm on pills right now.....they actually seem to be helping......though everyone is different, and I should add the disclaimer that the side effects of all the others ones they tried me on were odd to say the least....
