Got me a PS2

Post by Dalton »

I just spent the rest of my allocated "Tax Return Money to Blow on Useless Shit" on a brand-new PS2 with a DVD Remote Control (the first bit went to a new 80 gig HDD).

Now, I estimate that in about a week Sony's lowering prices

So, that means I have 2 next-gen systems now (and 2 it shall remain, as I do NOT want an XBOX). Ironically enough every last Playstation game I own is for the PS1, so the only benefits right now are faster loads and DVD-capability. On the upside, I don't have to waste a memory card to load a newer version of the DVD software.

So, any recommended games BESIDES FFX, Xenosaga and .hack? (and NO games that require an online link, plzkthx) Also, should I leave the thing in standby or flip the master when I'm done?

SW: StarFighter and SW: Bounty Hunter are both well worth your money.

And yes, it's OK to leave it on standby. That's what I do.

Grand Theft Auto 3 and Vice City. ICO. Suikoden III. Maximo. Splinter Cell.

You also might want to pick up Final Fantasy Origins - it's a PS1 title, but it has two classic FF games for a pretty good price.

I'm a Nintendo Junkie, but I hear Dynasty Warriors 4 is good, Splinter Cell is on/coming to the PS2(but it's on/coming to the comp too), ofcourse Vice City(but I hear the comp will soon have sloppy seconds on that), Final Fantasy Origins, FF1 + 2 with upgraded graphics, more plot, cinematics, and the Black wizard doesn't take his fucking hat off. Also a stoner asshole I know gave rave reviews for Kingdom Hearts.

On a sidenote, right now I'm thinking about getting a used PS1(I probly could buy it cheap from a friend who rarely is on the net, much less a generation old console, since he got his car) And getting some of the titles I missed without having to shell out that much cash. I'm also thinking, I have a sick Grandmother, and my mom is going to pay me to go up their and take care of her for a little bit short of a month. Well, then, after a trip to the beach for July 4th, I'm going to be going to England, and I was wonder, how good are the batteries on that little PS1 with the add on LCD screen, cause I may get that and FF7 as a substitute for a GB/GBASP and a new game.

Lies! I don't know about Starfighter, but just rent Bounty Hunter, you'll get your fill of it after about 6 levels, and then from then on out, it's just getting the story, and cheats can get you that quick.

Ok, something I forgot to mention, unless you don't have much time/ability to beat games quickly(both of which I have), blockbuster is your best fucking friend. Most games you can beat in a week, and others, you can see wiether or not they suck

Depends on what you like. For RPGs, there's Breath of Fire V, Suikoden III (though this one's a bit confusing at first if you haven't played Suikoden II already), and Wild ARMs: Advanced 3rd. For action, there's GTA: Vice City, Metal Gear Solid 2, and Silent Hill 2. For fighting, there's Soul Calibur 2 and Guilty Gear XX (though the former isn't out in the U.S. yet and will be available for the GCN as well when it is).

Hm. Just noticed that everything I listed is a sequel. What that says about the PS2 gaming scene, however, I leave up to you.

You think so? I thought they did a pretty good job easing newbies into the Suikoden universe. The connections between the two games don't start popping up until you're a few hours into the game.

I guess that how I started also had something to do with that reaction -- I started with the Geddoe scenario, which just dumped me straight in the middle of the action without much of an idea of what was going on -- things were a confused mess for me until I got back around to the other two branches. I had played the original Suikoden, but never got around to the second until after getting well into Suikoden III, at which point the references finally gelled.

Yeah, Geddoe's scenario is an awful place to start.

Standby mode.

Okay for action...GTA:VC(I don't give a flying fuck about the bitching and whining the game is sincerly good)

RPG: Suikoden 3 or BoF5(more then worth the time)...also dotHack wait till all four are released(because honestly the first part is a bit of a let down)

Fighting: SC2(I say GC version...Link is better then Heihachi), but VF4, GGX2, and CVS2 are all good.

Sports: dunno

Also some good almost mindnumbers are Dynasty Warrior 4 and Federation vs Zeon(well they've sucked up time)

So any real interests?

I tend to look more towards RPGs than anything else - I'll look out for BoF5 and maybe Suikoden (after I find out more about them). The Wild Arms game caught my eye in the Wiz the other day; I might pick that up. Does it have a western flavor?

Soul Calibur 2 I plan on getting, but for the Cube (since Link kicks ass).

Good choice... if you're into fighting games, try Guilty Gear X2. Its the deepest fighting game ive ever played, its got alot to it. Its a 2D fighter thats nothing like any capcom game, and its good. It takes a lil while to get used to its nonsense... but it all works well once you get used to its system.
Capcom Vs. SNK 2 is a personal favorite of mine ( made by capcom, art done by SNK ) and SNK Vs. Capcom is comming out ( made by SNK, art done by capcom ) soon, it looks interesting as well.

... and i played this crazy game called Mad Meistro the other day @_@ ... im not saying buy it... but if you ever get the opportunity... give that game a try, its ... umm..... interesting.

The first two Wild Arms' had a western flavor, so I guess the third one does as well.

I heard a lot about Guilty Gear XX on Penny Arcade. Gabe said he had to buy a fighting stick for it :?

Pfft Fighting stick only for serious one on one.

I can whup my friends/many a con goer/tourney punks till the cows come home with the pad(since I don't want to spend the extra $50 to get a good one)

But yeah try out either BoF5(some really unique things they did to the game...plus it has a New Game+ feature like CT...but more useful) and Suikoden 3 is cool as well.

For a rare RPG that's pretty good, try Shadow Hearts.

And yeah WA3 is defintly western flavor...fun game.

There is alot of good stuff. For action Vice City, Zone of Enders 2, or Splinter Cell. Good RPG's (besides FF10) include Xenosaga, Shadow Hearts, Kingdom Hearts (if you can get over the Disney theme, its a really good game), and .Hack.

There are also alot of cheaper good games as well: Gran Turismo 3, Shinobi, ZoE 1, Jak & Daxter, Spy Hunter, and Maximo. Both Shinobi and Maximo can get a little hard at times, but are fun.

Good luck

If you are looking for a good cheap game Gungriffon Blaze kicks ass, NCAA Football 2003 is the best football game i've played for it. DBZ Budokai is fun as is Tekken TAG. GTA3 and State of Emergency are great for venting, Jedi Starfighter kicks as well

If you want your Star Wars Starfighting fix, just buy X-Wing Alliance and
download the user created mods and campaigns. SW Starfighter is
crap, crap crap.

I should know, because I bought it as our very first PS2 game on the
recommendation of Kynes, and it turned out to be very...shitty compared
to the goodiness that is the X-Wing/TIE Fighter series=

Bleh... this game was hardly decent. The wierd thing was i was hardly impressed by Dynasty Warriors as well, i got bored with it really fast; but when it came to an annoying game like Mad Meistro, i couldn't put it down. Granted i was only playing for about 20 mins... but in that 20 mins, it as a segment of pure irritating bliss!
