Worms!

Post by Sriad »

This is a thread to discuss the best turn-based squad games ever, and maybe find people to play (own) on Wormnet.

So... what's your team weapon of choice? I'm a fan of mad cows myself. And boo homing pigeons users; you know you're only using them because you can't aim!

Bazooka. Yes, it's the default, but that doesn't make it worthless. Clusterbombs and Grenades are also useful.

EDIT: Oh, you said team weapons...personally I usually go for the flamethrower...

Homing missles, Holy hand grenade and all things cluster bomb like.

My crowning worms achievement was when my mate drilled a hole down to provide cover for himself and i made the flukiest shot ever and dropped a cluster bomb down the tunnel from over half the map away! Cluster bombs and confined spaces don't mix!

Sure they do.

It's just that the person in said confined space doesn't think so.

At your better computer game stores you should be able to find the "Worms Triple Pack" for around $20. It contains Worms 2, Worms Armageddon and Worms World Party. The three are fairly similar, but contain different missions, training, different weapon editing features, and WWP has a lot of different multiplayer settings. But you get all three anyway.

As far as normal weapons go, I've been learning a lot about the correct use of the Mortar. Aim at a wall or ceiling NEXT TO the enemy worm, and fire the mortar so that the little clusters land on them. It's possible (but difficult) to score an instant kill doing this, but the downside is that if you don't do around a hundred damage you'll do something like 30.

another question: Who is on your primary/favorite team? Mine is TJ: The Jesus, Turbo Jellyfish, Taibo Johnston, Tin Jackel, and Thom John.

The only one I will ever play is the original on PS1. Me and my cousin get the ninja rope on unlimited and the homing missiles on unlimited. Find the most wicked map with huge water gaps and over hangs. Then watch as we mutilate everything on screen with a mutlitude of swing down tactics. boo ya.

I used to spend hours just fooling around... There's a program called the Fiddler, which lets you edit weapons, game settings, etc.

Once I decreased the gravity to an almost non-existing level. Then I used a jetpack, and fired a Aqua Sheep, and hit myself in mid air... Flew to 16,000 feet.

Took about 5 minutes to land and stop bouncing on the water though.

Tropen, Stampede, and myself have had some of the most outragous matches. I know there was one match were I was in this opening and I put up girders. (We're bad enough to go from one side to the other with the ninja rope. Then drop dynamite). There was a small opening left. I told him he'd never make it down there. Sure enough that bastard made his way over. With his last damn Worm mind you. Proceeded to bungee down. Smooth move exlax. I will NEVER forget the sound that damn Worm made. Who was it Stampede, Blue Thunder, 00? Who cares. "Bungee...Nooooo!!!!" Yeah, that one gets called out when we fuck up in any game.

He got me back though. Oh yeah. Thought I was safe. Blow torched into the side of a cliff. There was NO way of getting there by Ninja Rope, or attacking by any conventional means. Ah, but Homing Missiles are not very conventional now are they? Nope. Two land masses. One Worm on one side, another on the other. Yup. Big pool of water. Son of a bitch Stampede, you will NEVER get me now. Your fucked five ways from Friday bub. Oh yeah. Homing Missile? Ignorance will cost you this match dear cousin. Oh yes it will. "Fire!". Damn thing shoots out and dips into the damn water. Stampeded says "Shit", I reply "Stupid fu..." That's when the screen started moving. Out of the depths like a torp with a nuclear payload, his fucking missile screams out from the waves. "Holy shit man. No way!" The look on my face I'm sure was priceless. The damn thing actually flew down the tunnel. That was no short tunnel either. Detonated and fragged my ass. Fuck you Stampede. You go to hell. You go to hell and you die! Don't you agree Mr. Hat?

In the original my favorite attacks were Dragon Ball (the bitch slap) and grenades. In Armageddon, I liked the Baseball bat, Carpet bomb, and Mole bombs.

Did you ever trade in Armegeddon?

Why do you like the Dragon Ball? Wasn't that the one Stampede and I used when we didn't want to risk dynamite?

I was a MASTER of the Holy Hand Grenade (well, grenades in general). I just had the knack for measuring angles...

But I'm great with the Flame Thrower. I like to use it when my target is above me, so that the initial blast throws him into the air, and then I keep the spray of fire on him while he's airborne (keeping him aloft)... it's a bitch to make sure that the flame doesn't come back down on my own worm, though. The minigun can do the same thing, though, if I recall correctly.

But then, I also love just using the plain ol' shotgun...

you forgot about the times where you two would put up girders and id come along and squeeze in between them and the ground to come place dynamite right on top of you...or how i would slingshot myself across the screen with the ninja rope just to do it

Shit yeah. That's why Tropen doesn't play with us anymore. twenty minutes just to get out from underneath a ledge, then fucking toss our own ass up in the air and land next to him. Or just swing back and forth and knock three of his guys off the ledge. Priceless. For everything else, there's the hand grenade.

Homing missiles are fun, because they can go underwater...

I personally prefer the Holy Hand Grenade...
