Are any celebrities Pro-war?

Post by Gandalf »

I was wondering, having been inspired by the 'Dumbest Anti-war celebrity', have any famous folk come out and actually said Go War, I'm not talking about the ones that just say 'Support our troops' here though.

A few come to mind.

Bruce Willis, Dennis Miller, Charlton Heston (obviously, though he hasn't made a public statement as far as I know), Colin Quinn (not exactly a celebrity), and Kid Rock (yes, Kid Rock supports the war).

You can add Arnold, and Kelsey Gramer

Here's a list (I don't know how accurate it is):

Surprisingly long. There are some names you wouldn't expect here.

Dennis Miller flored Phil Donahue when he was on talking about the war (pre-war, that is, before Donahue was cancelled).

Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks, believe it or not...

It'd be damned hypocritical if they were anti-war. After all, they have done 2 movies together about the military.

Not to rain on the parade or anything, but what does it matter whether or not a couple of private citizens who happen to work in the performing arts happen to be for or against the war?

Oh yes, that's right. Other private citizens like to let other equally or less qualified people tell them how it is.
The most basic assumption about the world is that it does not contradict itself.

I think their stance is along the Lines of "We support The troops", not so much as "we support the war." They seem to be of the (right, IMO) opinion that any sort of anti-war protesting at home will have detrimental effects on the troops.

Hmmm...no one mentioned Charlie Daniels?

Of course. How can we, as mere intelligent people with normal jobs, compete with the superior wisdom of people who make movies for a living and are so disconnected with reality that they don't even do their own grocery shopping?

They may not be any more or less intelligent than the average joe, but they have a wider audience to preach to.

I dont think it has to be hypocritical there are people serving in the military after all who do support the war, but do thier job anyway. Everyone has to make a decision for themselves wether a war is just or not. Not every war is going to be cut and dried. At long as those two are consistent in what they believe is a good reason for war, they avoid being hypocrites.

There are tons of pro-war celebrities. They just don't tend to garner the kind of attention for their views that the anti-war ones are generating.

And I don't think they're as vocal in their opinions as anti-war celebrities.

Well, Charlie Daniels is very vocal in his support of his war. If it wasn't for the "Charlie's Soapbox" section of his website, we probably wouldn't know his opinion on the subject...

I don't know about that. The Dixie Chicks made only one statement about this whole ordeal, and in a European arena, and one they later apologized about. There are doubtless countless other performers and other celebrities who voice their opinions during their performances and public appearances. I think they just don't garner the media attention that the anti-war celebrities generate.

Remember that celebrities are in many ways a microchosm of society. They have widely varied opinions, and in a broad sense can be seen as a polarized cross-section of the public at large. They tend to be more vocal and more firm in their beliefs than the average American, but they also have widely differing views on everything from the economy to politics to sports.
