Swords can be beautiful beyond belief. If you could afford a sword, any at all, which would it be?

This is the one I would pick, methinks.

Beautiful.

For me a true Katana...not a knockoff that I have but one of those babies my uncle has.

Hmm, either a katana or a Scottish Dragon broadsword, maybe a rapier, I saw Blade's rapier for sale in a shop the other day.

The LotR swords are all good too, but I take practicality over nice looking stuff. A mate's father has a walking stick since he was nearly killed in a shop heist. The walking stick has a metre blade built inside it for just such occasions in the future.

I'd prefer a buckytube yo-yo myself. :D

AFAIK the LoTR blades were all made to be useable in a practical sense, with correct balance, weight and shape.

The "hero" swords were at least. I don't know about the aluminum combat swords, though.

I'd like an high-tech sword like Ein posted, something like a Katana for the 21st Century like Grey Fox's in MGS.

Even better, one made from space-age materials with a small ultrasonic motor in it too.

A Falchion/Falcata would be one of my top choices. For one, the sword is VERY distinctive, and looks very nasty. While I do like swords, don't get me wrong, I'm not much one for armed combat. A simple mace would be my best bet, or a nice Roman Gladius. Other than that, give me a ranged weapon. He who lives by the sword, dies by the bolt.

I want to get Glamdring or Narsil/Anduril from LotR. The Noble Collection versions are actually correct in balance and weight, not that I'd ever use it. Definetely a collecter's peice.

Yup, I prefer the modern looking engineers approach to fanciful looking swords used today, they look out of place.

But now we could have single crystal or polymer swords with additional strengthening by buckytubes and other treatments and eventually maybe ultrasonic "vibro-blades".

I think every badass character should have a cool sword just in case the guns aren't needed, that or monofilament whips/yo-yos. :)

Anyone remember the triple bladed sword from The Sword and the Sorcerer? :D The two side blades could be fired/launched from the main sword. That sword always looked like it would be a bitch to use in battle.

I always kind of liked Conan's Atlantean Sword from Conan: The Barbarian.

Conan's Sword

I'd probably be better off with something like Blade's sword or the one that Einhander Sn0m4n posted.

I guess there's just too many cool swords for me to really settle on one. I will go so far as to eliminate one for certain. Lord of the Rings Scimitar. :? I always looked at this thing as more of an oversized cleaver or machete than an actual sword. You would have thought that putting any kind of point on the end of that thing would have been worth the extra time it took the smiths to put even a basic edge on it. [/url]

Movie swords are made of aluminum, which is why they swing them around so easily. I'd love to see actors using real steel broadswords.

IIRC the swords and armors used in LOTR were real.

A Gladius for me, thank you.

As a fan of actual turkish/persian scimitars, I absolutely loathe the Lord of the Rings scimitar. It bears very little actual resemblance to any actual scimitars I've ever seen.

A *real* scimitar, goddamnit!

Another fine example.

One may guess the type of sword I would like to own, hence killing two birds with one post. 8)
