In LotR, the swords used by Viggo Mortensen(Aragorn) are all real steel full weight swords(no live edges of course). He wanted to use thoes rather than the light aluminum ones so that his movements would be as realistic as possible, including the fatigue slowing that almost all swordsmen experience in full on combat.Darth Wong wrote:Movie swords are made of aluminum, which is why they swing them around so easily. I'd love to see actors using real steel broadswords.
According to the commentary during the filming of the final battle sequence aginst the Uruk-Hai in FotR, Viggo got a bit over excited and beaned a number of the costumed stunt crew.....none of whom took it personally.
