Favorite Cowboy Bebop Songs

Post by Joe »

Name your favorite instrumental piece, and your favorite vocal piece with lyrics, and explain why. Here's a listing for those of you unfamiliar with the soundtrack:

http://www.jazzmess.com/merch/cds/index.html

Instrumental: Space Lion

The piece that plays at the end of Jupiter Jazz II. This song completely makes the final scenes of this episode. Just beautiful.

Vocal: Rain

From Ballad of the Fallen Angels, plays while Spike fights Vicious. Pretty cool song, and the organ accompaniment kicks ass.

Other favorites include I Want it All Back, Tank!, Blue, and Memory.

You hit the best ones, especially "Space Lion" , I love that song and it fit the ending for Jupiter Jazz so perfectly. I also love "American Money", normally we only hear the first few seconds of it , but the whole thing is just so uptempo and fun :D.

Bebop was by far one of the best scored shows I've had the pleasure to see.

Blue, Tank,!, REal Folk blues, and of course, Mushroom Samba!

U mean Walk in the Rain?

I don't hear a sound, silent faces in the ground...

Great song.

Instrumental:

Can't say no to Space Lion or Tank!...Space Lion was just the perfect ending to Jupiter Jazz. Very mellow, touching tune, and the American Indian-style chants added a whole new flavor to it. Tank! is the exact opposite. It makes me want to get up and break shit.

Vocal:

Absolute first top choice, bar none, is Gotta Knock a Little Harder from the end of KoHD. This is one of the best Bebop songs ever. Starts soft, ends soft, but in the middle it lights a fucking fire in your belly.

Others I like are Call Me Call Me from the end of #24 (soft, mellow and extremely bittersweet...sends shivers down my spine every time I hear it), and Ask DNA from the KoHD opening credits (this song is just damn cool, even if it isn't Mai Yamane (sp?)).

Lessee...

Best vocal: Probably either Green Bird or See You Space Cowboy (The Real Folk Blues)

Best instrumental: Hard to choose...right now I've been listening to Yo Pumpkin Head a LOT, but Tank! might be the best. I don't know, they're all so good!

I looked through my collection (I've got every single one, booyah!), and these are the ones that jumed out at me:

OST 1
-Tank!
-Spokey Dokey
-Waltz for Zizi
-The Egg and I
-Felt Tip Pen
-Rain

OST 2 - No Disc
-American Money
-Bindy
-Fantaisie Sign
-Cats on Mars
-Green Bird

OST 3 - Blue
-Blue
-Words We Couldn't Say
-Mushroom Hunting
-Go Go Cactus Man
-Call Me Call Me
-Wo Qui Non Coin
-See You Space Cowboy

Cowgirl Ed OST
-Telephone Shopping

Cowboy Bebop OST Future Blues
-Musawe
-Yo Pumpkin Head
-7 Minutes
-Powder
-No Money

CD Box Set
CD 2
-Waste Land
CD 3
-Eyeball
-Amusement Park
-On the Run

EDIT: Took "Flying Teapot" off the list, for the reason that there are a lot of other ones that I like just as much but didn't put on here.
And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'

"What Planet is This?"(Knockin on Heaven's Door) -- I once heard this song described as a scene involving Spike and the CHiPs chasing James Brown in the Blues Brothers' car. Believe me, this discription fits this track perfectly.

"The Real Folk Blues" -- self explanatory.

"Rush" -- Another excellent track to just jam to.

Instrumental - Wasteland, I don't know why but it sounds so haunting and martial at the same time. A peice that does a lot to convey the mood of the scene.

Other instrumental favorites: ELM (a song perfectly fitting the scene), the Dub version 3.14 (Ed humming along instead of singing), Autumn In Ganymede (good upbeat peice), Piano Black (just plain cool).

Vocal - See You Space Cowboy. Spike, Vicious, one last showdown. It's my favorite song from the show, very moody and evocative.

Other vocal favorites: Chicken Bone (it's an Ed song), Yo Pumpkin Head (a funs song), Don't Bother None (excellent blues song).

OK, another topic: which version of Rain is superior, Steve Conte or Mai Yamane?

I personally disagree with Kanno; I prefer the Steve Conte version, Yamane is awesome but Conte puts a LOT of passion into this song.

I take it Mai Yamane is the female whose version appear in the actual session? I like her better. The quality of her voice is beautifully raw, which only enhances the evocative quality of the song.

I think, anyway. :D

Yeah, she's the main female singer of the series (Blue, I Want it All Back, and Real Folk Blues are hers, as well as some others).

I love both, but I think the Conte version is better.

The Conte version is better, but wouldn't have worked as well in the series. Mai Yamane's version really fit in with the mood.
