What SCI-FI world would you want to live in and why?

Post by TrailerParkJawa »

I really enjoyed the movie Starship Troopers. It was great entertainment if you didnt take it seriously. ( I think it was directed by the same guy that made Robocop )

So with that said, stupid tactics and all, I think I'd like to become a citizen by fighting all those bugs. I believe in Terra for Terrans!!!! :!:

And of course the fact that the ST movie universe is populated with lots of good looking women is a plus.

Some other possible choices for me would be to live in the Traveller 2300AD universe from GDW. And finally while it is not exactly sci-fi I would also consider living in the DragonLance Chronicles during the time of the War of the Lance.

I'd live on Coruscant, without a doubt. The best place in the best galaxy in the best universe.
And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'

About the only SF universe I'd like to live in is my own.

Why? Let's just say that most people there tend to die of natural causes rather than as a result of getting in the way of the Empire, Borg, Dominion, or Shadows (either version).
It's not my place in life to make people happy. Don't talk to me unless you're prepared to watch me slaughter cows you hold sacred. Don't talk to me unless you're prepared to have your basic assumptions challenged. If you want bunnies in light, talk to someone else.

Most people in the SF universes die the way we do here on Earth...that just doesn't make good entertainment, so we only see the fun deaths.
Really, in an Empire of quadrillions, not a very significant portion will be dying as a result of the war.
And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'

If I could control the Borg I'd want to live in that universe. I'd pesonally kill Picard. My message wouldn't start, " you will be assimilated," it would be, " prepare for a butt-kicking." That would get their attention.

The Culture.

Why? Well, there's plenty of reasons:

1. Lots of free stuff.
2. Culture AI's are cool.
3. Glands.
4. Nigh-immortality.
5. Subliming.
6. Really good VR tech.
7. I wanna see a Sphere.
8. The convenience of displacers.
9. I could shoot kittens at random, and the worst thing that they would do is slap-drone me. ...Not that I would. Really. Seriously, I wouldn't. Fine, don't believe me. See if I care.
10. I bet I could talk Hub into giving me a lightsaber. That'd be cool.

Well, I don't want to ramble on too much. That should be sufficient for now.

Culture, no question about it.
-It looks like a dildo!
-That's appropriate. Armed it can fuck solar systems.

I would choose either the E:FC universe (gotta love theFlat Planet Cafe and the post-20xx drug policy); or I would choose Bajakverse (my storyverse).

I offer here two other alternative worlds: world of Robotech, and world of Rifts.

Robotech would be cool for just one reason. Being able to pilot a VTOL fighter, or tank, or helicopter, or motorcycle that can turn into an ass-kicking battle armor just sounds fun.

In Rifts there's the balance of magic and science. Although I'd be more turned to the Empire (nice and evil) with their black, skull-faced armor, the rest of the world does feature many opportunities.

The Culture: they're hippies, only they've got nukes! I get to live for as long as I want, can have my body changed to my specifications, and just about any idea I want can be realized so long as I can persuade other people that it's a good idea. And, of course, there is the sex. :)

I'd go to SW universe.
My first priority would of course be getting command over an ISD. Enough power to devastate whole worlds! And additionally, the ship looks cool and intimidating! What do I need sex, a long life or a natural death when I've got an ISD?

Hmmm. The subject is not sufficiently clearly defined. Are we transported there with nothing (not even our clothes), or grew up there, or do we have some sort of portal between the real world and the SF world?

One way or another, though, the answer can be none other than...

The Imperium of Man!

Of course, your puny ISD could be pulverized in less than a microsecond by a Culture science ship.

You insulted ISDs being puny and weak in comparison to culture ships.
Oh. Great work. Really.
BUT WHAT WAS THE MEANING OF THAT???
Btw, I don't care if a culture ship is stronger than an ISD.
I just hate those 'SW rools ST suxx' posts.

You said you wanted an ISD (in part) because it was powerful. I was just pointing out that if you're after power, you should really look to the Culture (or Xeelee, or Foundation Federation, or 5th Imperium, etc.).
I just hate those 'SW rools ST suxx' posts.
Who doesn't?
For those of us unversed, what the hell is the Culture?
The basic idea of the Culture is that everyone is free to do whatever they are able to do. They have practically no laws, and those laws they do have are designed to prevent bad things from happening (like murder), rather than to punish people who have already done those things. The Culture economy is so strong that you can have pretty much anything you want (even a planet), so there's no real need for money. Culture AI's are far beyond humans in intelligence, so they consequently make most of the important decisions.

As for their capabilities...
Culture science ships can easily blow up planets. Culture ships fight at ranges measured in light years. They always fight at FTL speeds. Their EM Effectors (all military drones and ships carry them) can basically do anything your average high-powered telepath can do, plus other nifty stuff like draining energy out of things. Their favorite way to deliver a weapon is to displace it into the target, which basically means they teleport it in via singularity. Their fields are basically a combination of shields and force fields, which are flexible enough to mute sounds, deflect weaponry, carry heavy objects, or physically manipulate objects on an extremely small scale. And if enemy fire does manage to get past a ship's fields, their trapdoor system allows them to shunt out tremendous amounts of energy, making them nigh-invulnerable to Big 3 level civilizations. Culture ground warfare is conducted primarily by drones, which are basically like Culture ships that can fit in your pocket. If they ever do wish to send an organic being into a dangerous situation, they can equip that person with kiloton+ rated hand weapons, gel field suits which can protect the wearer from the conditions inside an active volcano (among other things), and memoryforms, which are deployable guns that can be packed down to the size of a cuff link.

Well, that should be enough information for a start.
