A middle-of-the-road approach. Jean Chretien released a public statement indicating that "we will not participate" in the war, but did not denounce it. Some low-level backbenchers made idiots of themselves by flapping their lips and saying some anti-American things.
A lot of people wondered why we could say we're not participating in the war if we have 3 ships in the Gulf supporting your fleet, so Chretien explained that those 3 ships would not turn over prisoners to the American fleet if they picked up any in their patrols, but they would instead keep the prisoners ourselves. Damned if I know what the hell kind of position that is ...
The aforementioned position is known as the "wishy-washy" route. It's very popular among people who don't want to "offend" anyone.

I stared boycotting French products after the British Beef thing. Germany doesn't bother me in the slightest over their stance. They didn't do half the damage France did and as for the canadians i'm sure whats to boycot them for.
Incidently Californian or Chilian red wine is much much better than french garbage. Infact if you check up on it you'll discover that French wine died about a hundred years ago. A plague wiped out 99% of the Vineyards crops and whats now growing in the vineyards actually orginates from California.

They claim that it's the climate, and not the grapes, that actually makes the wine.

And that's about it. The rest I don't have an issue with, and they'd go apeshit if we boycotted #3
3# is probably the most possibul, the US government could aid a catch onto any airline aid package, you must buy American for the next decade. Combine that with the A400M disaster and Airbus will be back to needing 5 billion a year in direct subsidies in months.
Ooh, that'd be cruel (of course, there's the ever-present rumours that Europe would revoke landing slots if they didn't buy Airbus...) And yes, A400M is a disaster.

If the French want to strangle there own tourist industry they can do so. I suspect most of Europe wouldn't be willing to go so far.
