Side-scrolling action/Fighting games
For those who don't know, I'm talking about games such as Double Dragon, Final Fight, and Streets of Rage.
If anyone remembers, these games all but dominated the arcade market in the mid- to late-90's. And for much of that, Capcom all but cornered the arcade, with games ranging from Aurturian legend to Aliens vs. Predator.
So what were your favorite games of this genre?

Final fight...I remember that waaaaaay back on the amiga....damn was that ever fun.
There's a few on an even older platform, the good 'ol lynx that I used to play all the time....practically grew up on the thing while actual computers were too expensive

Hmmm, I always endeared to the Garou series.
Street Fighters at times became too much find the ultra secret and have a group of elitist bastard exploit it through the nose.
SNK had some gems and some stinkers.
Namco has done some great(SC) and some really crappy(sorry Tekken 4 had way too easy of exploitation).
The DD style of gaming lasted until FF, and then slacked off.
The rest became too forgettable.

I had Double Dragons for my SNES, that was awesome. I also played the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade game a lot. There was also this monster game similar to Rampage I rented a lot for my SNES.

The Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles arcade game was fun, as was the afore mentioned Double Dragon series and Final Fight. Although i could never figure out wy the boss of final fight was an old guy in a wheelchair?

Guardian fucking Heroes.
A Sega Saturn game released by Treasure in 1995. Some seriously ass-kicking shit. If you have a Saturn/know someone with a Saturn/have access to a Saturn you are morally obligated as a human being to find and play this game.

Is that that one game where you select from like 4 different classes or something? Like Archer, Wizard, etc. (no, I'm not talking about Gauntlent Legends). A few missions in you fight this minotaur boss or something, is that the game? I barely remember it.Durran Korr wrote:Guardian fucking Heroes.

Oh yeah! Guardian Heroes was the whole reason why I bought a Saturn! I feel proud to be one of the few (it seems these days) that owns 2 Saturns and a huge collection of Saturn games (domestic and imported)!!Durran Korr wrote:Guardian fucking Heroes.

In the arcades I only got to play a few.
TMNT Arcade of course could not be beat. Wasn't it like the first of these?
Final Fight
Simpsons Arcade
X-Men Arcade
There was a lot in the arcade I just can't think of right now.
Console had a bunch of them. Dime a dozen now a days.
TMNT 2 The Arcade Game. Obviously one of the best. It was just natural for that to happen.
These two were okay, pretty boring.
TMNT 3
TMNT 4
SNES
TMNT Turtles in Time
Gensis
TMNT Hyperstone Hiest
These two are so similar, yet SO different. To me the Genesis version was better.
Streets of Rage, take your pick
Life and Death of Superman
The best I have ever come across, minus a few slow parts is
Star Wars Jedi Power Battles.
The PSX version sucks. HORRIABLY
Those fortunate enough to have a Dreamcast NEED this one in thier library.
First off, you have the choice of five Jedi. Instead of the two button special attack, you have Force powers. Plus, this is huge too, you can block. Plus you do have special weapons like grenades and stun things. LoL.
Here's what puts it up above things. That block thing, if done right, like waiting till the last second, will actually deflect laser bolts back at a target.
So you've played through huh? Still has it's replay huh? Guess what, you've probably unlocked a secret character! If your Qui Gon, you unlock Darth Maul, who uses both ends of his sabre!!! Woo hoo. Now, if you play as Mace Windu on Jedi, then you unlock survival mode. 100 enemies. One health power up, one force powerup, one special item, and a whole lot o shakin' goin' on!!! Beat this, and you can now unlock ultimate sabre mode. One hit, one kill on anything except a boss. Even then they go down quick. Heh.

Not four different classes, persay....four different characters with unique abilities (a ninja, a barbarian-style swordsman, a magician/stickfighter, and a cleric with some nasty aggressively defensive magic), and one perfectly well-rounded character that you unlock once you complete the game (a female Knight who can do a little bit of everything fairly well).JediNeophyte wrote:Is that that one game where you select from like 4 different classes or something? Aha, yes forgot about that one. That was actually pretty cool, I played that at a friend's birthday party, we used armfuls of tokens on that...consequences wrote:Dungeons&Dragons

Cartman- Ha, FAGS!!!
You need to get your feet off your head, and your pants to your ears and go help someone who HAS NO FEET! Because if foot-less animals can not walk over here on their little non-footed areas and tell us how hungry they are. I don't think they can.- Brak's Dad
