Stormtroopers vs THESE Federation troops
Moderator: Vympel
They seem to be using a modified version of the First Contact suit now.

That is the standard suit they wore for everything. They just pulled the helmet out of the transporter buffer and put it on. It doesn't even attach to the collar of the suit, so the forcefield must interface with the suit field. Anyway, they used this to move EVA from the Dela Flyer to the Scavengers ship and they used it when transporting into a ship that was vented to space.
Always trust the Federation to introduce advanced new technology in which power loss=instant death.

Well it worked reliably the whole time it was used. Such advanced technology makes life easier on the soldier because they can carry more weapons, equipment, and have greater endurance.Sea Skimmer wrote:Alyeska wrote:http://www.avault.com/reviews/avscreens ... tvef&num=1

If they've got a transporter buffer they can pull a helmet out of then why not give it a physical seal? I'm not seeing any good reason against it, and I doubt the buffer gets heavier if you cram more data into it.Alyeska wrote:

And results in a one shot kill if you aim for the suit's battery. As opposed to a ST suit, which has no vunerable powerpack that will kill the user if disabled.Alyeska wrote:Well it worked reliably the whole time it was used. Probably not. As something gets larger and more complex it requires more storage space. Its easier to allow a soldier to carry a dozen weapons and a fair amount of supplies then it is to move about a tank. Though one has to look at just how the buffer works. Does it convert the item into some quasi state energy that allows them to store it in a energy containment device? Or does the suit have such a large amount of energy it simply takes data and replicates a new device. Given that they call it a transporter and that Voyager has actualy used transporters to hide people and equipment within specialized storage devices in the past, I am inclined to see it that way. Somehow it alters the device into an energy state and stores it within the buffer on the belt. This is a tremendous advantage to the Hazard Team.jegs2 wrote:The transporter buffer thingie is a neat trick, allowing them to carry lots of stuff in a virtual "rucksack." What is the limitation on what that "rucksack" can carry -- can it store a tank?

Sometimes it is desirable to neutralize droids without permanently damaging or destroying them. These constructs are vulnerable to the effects of an electromagnetic pulse, a burst of energy which destroys critical electromagnetic pathways in mechanical and computerized de vices.
Internal components are hardened against EMP effects as a matter of course in manufacturing, to enable devices to withstand the rigors of space and unpredictable alien environments. However, a modified-frequency pulse effect developed by Merr-Sonn weapons is capable of penetrating shielding and hardened circuitry. The DEMP gun incorporates this technology. It is a weapon capable of "stunning" a droid as an alternative to damaging it.
The DEMP gun is available in a handgun or carbine configuration with adjustable power settings. Setting one does one-half the normal stun damage of a blaster pistol. Setting two inflicts the stun damage indicated in the weapon specifications. Setting three inflicts physical damage to internal components. A droid damaged with setting three cannot be repaired, but must have its components completely replaced.

I see you have nothing constructive to add. I point out that it worked flawlessly. The shot would have to get through the shield in the first place. Such a weapon would be just as equaly effective against SW soldiers because it renders all their weapons useless and would cause most all the equipment a stormtrooper hsa to become useless as well.Bye Bye Hazard TeamImperial Sourcebook wrote:Merr-Sonn DEMP Gun

Moron.

RE, DEMP GUN
They won't be fighting in a dangerous enviroment (by the stated scenario)so the best it'll do is short out their sheilds, phasers and transporter buffers, after which if they're lucky they get imperial intelligence hospitallity. If not, they get shot.
If they were fighting in space, then we could expect them to be fighting Spacetroopers.

OK, the helmet DOES have a seal on it, as proven by the following screencaps:

Improved Hazzard team. The first two have Type-3A rifles with underslung grenade launchers while the third has a Assault Rifle version with a grenade launcher.
I would like to see how well Stormtroopers fair against these three.

Stormtroopers can be equipped with extended oxygen supplies for vacuum fighting. However I don't believe they have any form of thruster or gravity system, which makes zero G fighting a no go. Spacetroopers would slaughter Trek starships, Redshirts would simply be smashed into pulp without wasting ammo.NecronLord wrote:RE, DEMP GUN

I know that they can be equipped for vacuum fighting. Hell the standard Stormie armour has 20 minutes without extension.

Alyeska's harping about shields is probably meaningless anyway.
SW hand weapons are powerful enough to probably drill through ST personal shielding.
