Attack Chopper

Post by Kenny_10_Bellys »

Hi gang, got bored making transport helo's and decided to go with a little attack chopper, but being me I had to take the road less travelled and went for a stumpy co-axial rotor design. I knocked this up the other evening and started detailing it tonight before bedtime and I though you bums might want a look or to rip it to bits. Here you go...

Nice, I think it needs a bigger gun.

It needs missles on those stubby pilons. Or rocket pods, or whatever.

Cool stuff. 8)

Looks nice. You should probably put some pylons on the stub wings so that you can put some missiles on them...

Just personal preferance, and if it's an attack hellicopter it looks a little lacking in the offence.

Yeah, does bear a striking resemblance. But it doesn't need a bigger gun, it needs more guns.

No, it just needs a bigger gun. You will usually want a bigger gun over more guns...

Fret yee not fellow SD.netters, this is purely a work in progress that I knocked up in a couple of hours over the weekend. The stub wings will be dripping with missiles and rocket pods when I'm finished, and I'm thinking of adding some sort of retractable missile pod to the underside (Airwolf ahoy!). At the front I'll add some sensor bits and bobs to go along with the gattling gun mount, then maybe some landing gear. Not sure if I should make it retractable or go with an Apache style Tricycle gear (too Apache like then?) or a Hormone style 4 leg arrangement.

My suggestion would be to chnage the exhaust to reflect current infrared supression.

Other than that, when can we start placing orders?

The smooth style and flaring of the engine bays made it almost impossible to stick on a 'black hole' system similar to the Apache, I did try it. What I did realise however is that this design has an added bonus similar to the A10 Warthog, in that the high mounted engine outlets are pretty much hidden from the ground by the rear wings, making a shoulder launched weapon that much harder to lock on. The nozzles are also quite thick, I can say there's a cooling system integrated into it, and I can add 'fins' inside the nozzle that hide the interior from view as well.

The Comanche???? Don't you mean the Apache?

Just for you guys I added some big guns and missiles and shit, the way you like it. This thing now has a 20mm gattling gun, 4 x 65mm cannon, 2 FFAR rocket pods and 4 x AIM-9P missiles. That should be enough to put the willies up anything that should happen to meet it up a dark alleyway. Since it's partly based on the co-axial Russian Hormone-B Helicopter by Kamov industries I also gave it a NATO codename and a number designation for the near future. Anyone out there got a better 'H' name then let me know.

65mm cannon? If by cannon you mean single shot grenade launcher, maybe. But any real gun of that caliber would rip such an aircraft apart. Theres little point in any case, you could mount eight heavy ATGM's in the same space that would be more effective against armor, and soft targets are better dealt with using rockets.
