How to back out?

Post by Yogi »

Let's say I'm debating a complete idiot on a message board. Let's also say that I've had quite enough of this and want to back out, but that would just trigger the other person to crow "Concession Accepted". How do I back out without making it look like I'm running away?
I am capable of rearranging the fundamental building blocks of the universe in under six seconds. I shelve physics texts under "Fiction" in my personal library! I am grasping the reigns of the universe's carriage, and every morning get up and shout "Giddy up, boy!" You may never grasp the complexities of what I do, but at least have the courtesy to feign something other than slack-jawed oblivion in my presence. I, sir, am a wizard, and I break more natural laws before breakfast than of which you are even aware!

I've seen a few of those. I just say, "We'll agree to disagree. I apparently haven't convinced you to my point of view, and you certainly haven't changed my mind. I'd stay and argue further, but my time is precious, and I've other fights to fight. Good day to you."

Try a post like "You obviously think you can win this by simply repeating yourself until I tire of refuting you and give up from exhaustion. Fine, if that's the kind of "victory" you're looking for, then give yourself the last word and pat yourself on the back".

Thanks for your help. It's not needed this time, since evidently others also tire of his stupidity and are joining the battle, hopefully distracting him. I'll keep it in mind though.
