A Woman's Definition of a Clean House (rant)

Post by jegs2 »

Okay, years ago I used to listen to my dad complain to my mom that her definition of cleaning up a room (or a house for that matter) included little more than shoving stuff haphazardly into a closet or just out of site. I really didn't take that at face value until recently. Sherri got on her "cleaning fit" today. I came into my office to see my bed cleared of my stuff, and the floor had none of my footware on it either. As I opened up my closet, I saw my boots, uniforms, gloves, reflective running belt, and nearly everything else jammed into the bottom of my closet where I usually pile dirty uniforms. Earlier in the year, she'd done something similar to paperwork I had carefully laid in piles around the office. That took a while to undo an re-sort. So, it seems that what my dad said is true. To a wife, cleaning up a room usually means stuffing things out of sight.

Huh.....oi.

No wife, but when girlfriends who wish to mother me(I have two) do that I always get a slight eeire feeling to clean up what I need.

Sometimes fails(usually at the worst time and Ihave one call me to say they cleaned up...only to have me slam my head repeatedly on the desk at work)...but always irksome.

And yes they have the same pattern...shove stuff, elsewhere.

In the way of a short overview...most of my relationship with former girlfriends either end horrendously(she running off bawling, me standing there wondering what did she me by "I love you, but it wasn't meant to be!!!")

or

Let's be friends.I have quite a few who mother me...and such not, so two of them(Julie and Nea) mother me incessantly...literally.

And sometimes(around 1-2 per month) they come over(because I dunno half of my older girlfriends have my key or know someone who does...etc) and clean up.

Overall it's all very odd, but my cat seem to love them.

Don't you understand what's happening here? This is their way of giving you an incentive to clean up your own stuff!

They will meticulously put their own stuff away in the proper place; inspect their cleanup operations if you doubt this. But your stuff gets the shovel treatment. This is not slovenly; this is a brilliantly devious way of making you clean up your own area without nagging or berating you to do it.

Aside from my mom, who is more messy than me, most of the women in my life are very clean. In fact you might find your stuff in the garbage if it has no immediatly apparent value.

I have to agree with Darth Wong on this one. Most women can be so much more clever and devious than men realize when it comes to getting men to do what they want.... plus this gives them room to argue with when you confront them about tossing your stuff in the closet floor. "It was in the way so I put it in the closet for you to put away." making you start the arguement not them(should that happen).

True. My wife though refuses to come into my den and clean it. To her, it is beyond hope. That place is my refuge.

Men can be clever too (sometimes). My dad put the whites and colors together in the wash once early in the marriage, and he never had to do laundry again

Ah...my parents used to make me wash the dishes once a week. So I just started doing a really shitty job, and now I never have to wash the dishes.

I never mind when my mom shoves everything off to the side. She doesn't throw things away or break anything, and it's not like I'm ever going to clean anything anyways, so I might as well just let her when she thinks things have gone too far.

When I'm tidying Rob's stuff in my room (we don't live together), I just put it in a neat pile that he can take home later.
But wiht my flatmate, who seem to think that the hall in front of my wardrobes and mirror is the perfect place to pile up their shoes, iftenr find their shoes in a pile on the upstairs landing.

But that's just moving the mess.

Really? I've always found my mother much more meticulous than my father. In fact, that's why I did a jig about 8-9 years ago when my mother got a job. Stuffing my crap into the closet has always been my method of cleaning, and since the latest shower, I'm still a guy.

I tried intentionally doing a shitty job before. That didn't work on my parents, they just got mad and told me to do it over.
I am capable of rearranging the fundamental building blocks of the universe in under six seconds. I shelve physics texts under "Fiction" in my personal library! I am grasping the reigns of the universe's carriage, and every morning get up and shout "Giddy up, boy!" You may never grasp the complexities of what I do, but at least have the courtesy to feign something other than slack-jawed oblivion in my presence. I, sir, am a wizard, and I break more natural laws before breakfast than of which you are even aware!
