Startrek and Starwars ground forces battle

Post by The Yosemite Bear »

Ok, I have been watching Black Hawk down, and we were soldiers today.

A race of Hostile humaniod insects have been armed by your enemy state. They have an extensive network of tunnels built up by the worker caste. They are well armed and this is their planet. Also due to the alien constuction methods you can not detect their tunnel network except by using old eyeball mark 1, and hard searching.

Your Forces as Startrek
1500 Ground Troops armed with whatever cannon weapon your civilization has been shown to produce and equip their ground forces with, along with some simular technology weapons (EI oversized LMG versions of the Phasor or distuptor rifle, Photon Granades etc)

The Enemy Forces: Energy Rifles, Photon or Plasma Granades, Sholder launched micro Torpedoes (Powerful enough they might bring down a TAC fighter) Oh they out number you at least 10- 100 to 1

The Empire/NR forces
1000 Ground Forces, Blaster Rifles, E-webs, Grenades, Sholder launched Concussion Missiles.

The Aliens:
Out number you at least 10 to 1 possibly 100 to one. Also armed with the same equipment. Their exoskeletons can dissipate some of the energy from a blaster (A direct hit will still kill one, just glancing beams won't)

Who is going to subspace/Hypernet for a broken Arrow strike first?

Considering that ST battle tactics are well....worthless, the bugs overwhelm the redshirts and force them to call broken arrow. It ends about ten minutes later.

The Imperials have a hard time. The surprise attack and huge number of enemy forces cause little confusion. They behave better under fire and are better trained.
The attacks are repulsed with ewebs and grenades while the infantry move to flank the enemy and cut them off.
In the end the skill an training of the Imperials makes them the winners. Albeit with larger than normal casualties, due the sheer numbers of enemy.

Need more info on training and tactics of enemy. Are they mindless drones or battle hardened soldiers. And which is it 10 or 100 to one, it makes a big difference.

assuming Star Wars, (ST Are dead meat) I'm not going for normal ground assault they out number me to much.

Assuming they have a theater shield so bombing runs are out.
I will land some mortars and escorts and lay down a barrage of heavier than air poison gas.
Then we go in with light vehicles (AT-ST and the like) and find the tunnels. Pinpoint them for surface piercing weapons and destroy there shield generator if is above ground.
finally after clasping most of the tunnels we send in the storm troops in full sealed NBC gear with flame throwers.

The red shirts try to negotiate with the alien intruders and get wiped out carte blanch. The SW troops find the openings of the tunnel network with scouts and combat patrols, then they find high ground around the target area, clear the fields of fire, set up a layered defence. and start sending out security patrols. This bottles up the enemy in the tunnel network. Using coordinated attacks, they close up entrances to the tunnels, while continuing to scout for new ones. Try to bottleneck the enemy to a few avenues of approch, and let the Great Alien Turkey Shoot begain, and for once use ranged weapons at range!
They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong

But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

ST forces could not do it, SW might be able to do it but they would suffer heavy casualties.

The Red shirts are wiped out. Star Fleet sends in their best weapon, Kirk, Spock, and Bones.
Spock takes readings, Bones bitches about beeing a Doctor, and not an exterminator, and Kirk beds down the Hive queen, and gets his head bitten off after the deed.

ST, armed with cotton shirts and TV remotes are decimated within seconds by a mass ambush.

Stormies take severe casualties (up to 10%) in the opening ambush, but rapidly fall back to a secure location (building, or solid rock, where tunnels can't penetrate). Attempt to limit it to a surface battle. Eventually win but probably with only one man and an E-Web left at the end.
