I work for a Union, I am a fanatical supporter of people keeping their noses out of my fucking civilrights and what I do with my free time. I am also a public service employee and am somewhat practiced at keeping my mouth shut, about politics.... (at work at least)
However I am completly alienated to both political parties, as they are committed to doing nothing....

but aren't Unions committed to facilitation of the ability of others to do nothing? I was a Teamster for a while and hell, the boys at the local devoted their lives for what they believed was my god cinin right to do as little as possible for UPS and still get paid. The Yosemite Bear wrote:I work for a Union, I am a fanatical supporter of people keeping their noses out of my fucking civilrights and what I do with my free time. I suppose I'd fall under right, but I'm not a very good "right winger" if I'm in favor of gay marriage, drug legalization, strict separation of church and state, and legal abortion up to the point conscious brain activity is detectable in the fetus. But I'm a lousy liberal, because I support strict color-blindness in regards to race both personally and officially with no regards given to "past injustice", minimal government, lassez-faire economic policy, and realpolitik foreign policy. I'm a living illustration of how strict left-right divisions aren't necessarily accurate.

I'm slightly right of center. There are things that I agree with that could be considered to be leftist, but, there are many things that agree with that are considered to be on the right side of the political spectrum...

You sound like a Libertarian. That's how I'd characterize most of my views anyway.RedImperator wrote:I suppose I'd fall under right, but I'm not a very good "right winger" if I'm in favor of gay marriage, drug legalization, strict separation of church and state, and legal abortion up to the point conscious brain activity is detectable in the fetus. "Right now we can tell you a report was filed by the family of a 12 year old boy yesterday afternoon alleging Mr. Michael Jackson of criminal activity. A search warrant has been filed and that search is currently taking place. Mr. Jackson has not been charged with any crime. We cannot specifically address the content of the police report as it is confidential information at the present time, however, we can confirm that Mr. Jackson forced the boy to listen to the Howard Stern show and watch the movie Private Parts over and over again."

I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."

I'm not quite a capital-L libertarian, though I voted for Browne in 2000 (I could do so safely because Gore's lead in New Jersey was so huge my protest vote wasn't going to make much difference). I used to be, but I've come around to the point of view held by the Republican Liberty Caucus, P.J. O'Rourke, and a few others, that small-l libertarianism is best achieved working through the major parties and practical political considerations have to take precedence sometimes over idealogical concerns. Still, I wish the LP the best of luck and if I ever ran for local office, I'd probably end up doing it as a Libertarian.

I don't fall under the traditional labels of 'left' and 'right'. I take each issue on it's on merit and come down on the side of whoever has the hottest chicks at their rallies. </non-sequiter>
Seriously, though, I have almost the exact same views of RedImp. There are issues I do not agree with the Right on(social issues, mostly) and issues I do not agree with the Left on(economic and foreign policy, and the left has just seemed really spineless lately).

I am slightly left of centre, I used to work for a political party and it was a left wing party, one of the few leftwing parties in Northern Ireland. I worked for my party for two and a half years as a volunteer untill certain members of the party started trouble for me. The certain menbers where also members of the Ulster Volunteer Force and threatened to have me shot in the knee. Even so dispite my bad experiences i am still persuing a career in politics.

According to that site that ranks people based on two axes (Left/Right and Authoritarian/Libertarian) I'm almost in the center of both, leaning slightly toward left libertarian.
Not that I would have voted for Nader, at any rate.

Nader isn't the Libertarian Party's candidate; he's the Green Party's.Crayz9000 wrote:According to that site that ranks people based on two axes (Left/Right and Authoritarian/Libertarian) I'm almost in the center of both, leaning slightly toward left libertarian.

That site is quite frankly horrible for finding out where your political alignment is, at least on the American political spectrum.
