Sangria (Local Band)

Post by Lord Poe »

Hey, I have just been given the task of updating a local band's rather bland website, so check out my work here:

http://www.sangriaband.com

The old site was nothing but a red background with white bold letters.

So give Sangria some counter hits, and if you live in the Southern California, check 'em out!

Well, several of the venues they play SERVE alcohol!

Also, you can pop a cold one while reading SD.net. Works for Ted...

Meh, don't worry about it, Poe. I'm really not into alcohol that much anyway, and I don't even know what Sangria tastes like (I always get it confused in my head with Sambuca, and that's not right at all). *shrugs*

Maybe I will check out your band link, though.... :D

Zaia, sweetness, Sangria is absolutely delicious! It's red wine, sweetened with fruit juice, and seved cold. And when served properly, it has chunks of fruit, as well. I'm sure there's an abundance of recipes available on the net. Try it, you'll like it. :D

I feel like I've missed something in my youth, I don' even know what Sangria is other than the fact that Tori Amos has a song titled "Sweet Sangria". I suddenly feel stupid today. :?

Say, do you want it to be a threesome with your wife? Or a foursome with your wife and sister-in-law? I'm up for either. :P

Sangria is very good, specially because you can drink liters of it without getting too drunk.

I always thought the name sangria was derived from the Portuguese word sangue (blood), because of its red colour. Was I mistaken? :?

You called me 'sweetness!' *melts into pile of goo at Frank's feet*

.....

Sorry. *composes self to address content of post as best as possible while in goo form* That does sound delicious. Much better sounding than licorice-flavoured crapolla. Mmmmm. I'll have to try it sometime. :D

It would make more sense if it was derived for the spanish word for blood, "sangre". You don't have to remove the U and add an additional, arbitrary R.

EDIT: I just remembered, "sangria" is also the spanish word for that "medical" term of applying leeches to patients to heal them from whatever.

That's certainly it. I didn't remember to think how it would be in spanish.

Still, it's funny to see the same name used in english. I would expect a different, more anglophile word :)

Edit: On the other hand, the portuguese verb " to bleed" is "sangrar", so it can come from there as well. Gah, it probably comes from both. I'm confused.

Santeria, you don't practice Santeria. It's one of my karaoke songs. :D
And if you were to anglicise Sangria, nobody would drink it! "Can I interest you in a nice glass of bloody?" Blecchhh! :x

Well both are quite similar in some ways, so it all comes down on who invented the damn thing.
