There are people in the world who genuinely belive they are Jesus Christ, do they get to have an operation to give them holes in their hands and a spigot to turn water in wine? no! they are delusional, just like trans-whatervers

FYI, there are still people in my country who have themselves voluntarily crucified during Maundy Thursday and Good Friday.

Yup, also self-flagellation in the streets. Usually people who do this say that they made a promise to God that they will do this for divine intervention.. Like for example, this father watches his wife having difficulty giving birth. The doctor says that the chances of both his wife and child will die. He prays to God that if he will spare his family, he will have himself crucified to the cross on Good Friday. When his wife and kid recovers, he feels that he is bound to do his oath. I hear that there are some people who have themselves crucified 15 times!!!

I live in the Philippines which is the only predominantly Catholic country in Asia so there are lot of what you call traditions dating back hundreds of years to the Spanish Occupation.

It should be noted that the Catholic church here does not encourage these forms of penance.

I'd have thought that the human wrist wasn't strong enough to support the weight of the body via nail.

Usually they drive the nails through the palm and tie the person's arms to the wood used for the cross for support.

I think we've gone through the whole crucifixion thing before.

To reiterate: Through the palms will tear and wont support the body, only the wrists, right between the two bones, will.

Gah! So confused. Why bother with the nails when all you need is to bind them to the cross? Both achieve the effect of crucifixion, after all.

Either one works. And technically, they're not supposed to survive.
