BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER MOCKS CHRISTIAN FAITH DURING HOLY WEEK
PTC Denounces Show for Anti-Christian Bigotry
Los Angeles, CA—Today the Parents Television Council denounced UPN and the creative team behind Buffy the Vampire Slayer for insulting Christians during this, the most holy week of the year. Tuesday night’s episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer includes a character, Caleb, who kills his followers, mocks the priestly robes, grossly manipulates Christian scripture, seduces girls and then kills them.
The series, which is known for displaying scenes of graphic violence and inappropriate sex to its young teen audience, mocked the Christian faith during Holy Week.
“The timing of this episode was no accident. It was a bigoted slap in the face to Christians everywhere to include an evil priest who murders people while distorting scripture and making a mockery of the Eucharist during Holy Week,” said Brent Bozell, President of the Parents Television Council. “Holy Week is a time when the networks could—and should—air programming that uplifts and celebrates people of all faiths. Instead, UPN chose to degrade the Christian faith with this highly inappropriate portrayal of a priest.”
Excerpts from the PTC Transcript of the 4/15/03 Episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer on UPN
Caleb, [character portraying a priest] “Drink of this, for it is my blood.” He drinks. “Ya know, I always loved the story of the last supper. The body and blood of Christ becoming rich, red wine. I recall as a boy, though, I couldn't help but think, what if you were at the Last Supper and you ordered the white? A nice oaky chardonnay or white zin. I mean, would he make that out of his lymph for someone?”
Caleb burns a girl with the cigarette lighter and then stabs her while saying, “Now that’s the cleansing vibe, Hallelujah!”
“UPN has clearly crossed the line with this anti-Christian bigotry,” added Bozell. “There is absolutely no reason to insult people of faith in this way, but Hollywood producers apparently don’t seem to care about mocking the Christian faith.”
Note that the quotes are not sequential, as one might be led to believe by the article but took place in completely different scenes.
The second quote appeared in the teaser, the first quote much later, end of the first act I beleive.

They should also be outraged at these books I've read which portray people butchering Native Indians while spouting Scripture and calling it "Manifest Destiny". They are just as bigoted against Christians ... wait a minute, that's historically accurate fact.

They have the nerve to actually complain about this? This PALES in comparision the things that Christians have done in reality, in the name of god, for generations, since late antiquity.
Heck even Catholic Priests now do worse shit then that.
Devolution is quite as natural as evolution, and may be just as pleasing, or even a good deal more pleasing, to God. If the average man is made in God's image, then a man such as Beethoven or Aristotle is plainly superior to God, and so God may be jealous of him, and eager to see his superiority perish with his bodily frame.

I'm sure these are the same people who whine about how "Christmas is losing it's meaning" whenever a network airs a Christmas special that isn't about Jesus. What about other groups depicted in a negative manner by entertainment, like scientists?
Can't the just say "evil bastards com in all forms. EVEN christians.

So, when are they going to start yelling at Hollywood for making villains in some movies devil worshipers? That's bigoted against devil worshipers, after all.
Of course, Buffy got it wrong in that, in real life, evil priests don't torture or kill girls; they molest little boys. Maybe that's the problem the fundies have ...
Did the fundies ever bitch and moan about the show's indictment of the Christian hang-ups about sex in "Where the Wild Things Are"?

The Inquisition is, IMHO, questionable, since they used the Papacy as refuge from the Throne and the Throne as refuge from the Papacy. Neither church nor state particularly liked the Inquisition, but neither could ever muster the strength to abolish it. So the Inquisition continued at its rate of one execution every three years (IIRC) for a couple centuries.

Inapproproate sex? I've never seen any sex on Buffy. Scenes indicating that sex just happened, sure, but that's different.

Yep, it does. But apparently the thalymus and the pancreas taste best when DRAINED of blood. They're called the "sweet meats."
It's also kinda hard to isolate enough plasma to drink, I would think. It would require medical equiptment and such... it's much easier to draw blood than to draw plasma. But I dunno, maybe the payoff is worth it.
