Dogs actually CAN live happily on a vegitarian diet, as they're physiologically close to omnivores (although they need high quality food, i.e. cooked crabohydrates)
Cats are true carnivores, but dogs aren't.

I'm trying to immagine the look of dissapointment on my dog's face if I tried to give him a salad for dinner.

My earlier dog ate little more than boiled sweet potatoes. It wasn't exactly a veggie diet because we didn't impose so she wouldn't eat meat (in fact she got meat or chicken leftovers about once a week). And when we didn't give her boiled sweet potatoes, she would steal them raw and chew them in a corner or something.
She died at age eighteen or so.
But I agree that it's stupid to force pets NOT to eat their natural foods. Oh and sweet potatoes make their skin very stinky.

LOL, Never thought I'd see somebody stupid enough to advocate the eating of roadkill.Originally posted by Carla at askCarla.com
Is it OK to eat roadkill?
If people must eat animal carcasses, roadkill is a superior option to the neatly shrink-wrapped plastic packages of meat in the supermarket.
Eating roadkill is healthier for the consumer than meat laden with antibiotics, hormones, and growth stimulants, as most meat is today. It is also more humane in that animals killed on the road were not castrated, dehorned, or debeaked without anesthesia, did not suffer the trauma and misery of transportation in a crowded truck in all weather extremes, and did not hear the screams and smell the fear of the animals ahead of them on the slaughter line. Perhaps the animals never knew what hit them. Of course, people who want to kick the meat habit can get a free vegetarian starter kit at http://www.meatstinks.com/livevegpak.asp.
Can someone explain to me what dog years is, and what the point of it is?

AFAIK, one human year=seven dog years. I don't know what the purpose of it is, apart from disguising the fact that dogs have comparitively brief lives...Vympel wrote:Can someone explain to me what dog years is, and what the point of it is?

That comparison is inacurate though, as, IIRC, a one year-old dog is equivalent to a fifteen year-old child, and it changes as the dog gets older.3rd Impact wrote:AFAIK, one human year=seven dog years. As for those people, if cats and dogs were meant to eat meat, then they should be able to eat meat. But, I'm really not surprised that they're saying stuff like that. They're the same people who almost get themselves mauled to death trying to keep a bear from eating a fish.

I know dogs are pretty much omnivorous. But that won't stop me from having fun at Carla's expense!innerbrat wrote:Dogs actually CAN live happily on a vegitarian diet, as they're physiologically close to omnivores (although they need high quality food, i.e. cooked crabohydrates)

Sad thing is, I understand these idiots. I don't agree with them, but I understand where their unfounded logic comes from. Guess that's what working as a dishwasher at a casino-restaurant out in BFE will do to you. I swear the food there is more grease than anything else. Oh, that and working with a sink that continually clogs because the garbage disposal is broken. Any moment I expect a huge trash wyrm to come out of the muck and try to bite my hand off. Some small cousin of the one that luke fought in the first Star Wars.
Actually, however, human beings are statistically proven to be their healthiest on a <mostly> vegetarian diet. Not a country fried grease diet, but on the other hand, definitely not a full vegetarian diet. Just further proof to me that pizza is the perfect food. And on the topic of cats and dogs. I'm not quite sure about dogs, but I know that cats will starve without any Taurine in their diet, a certain nutrient that comes mainly from red meat. My ramblings for today.

Ask Carla's Opinion of Banzaiikitten.com:
Does anyone else find this to be a hilarious coincidence.AskCarla wrote:Although this site is supposed to be a "joke," it is still inappropriate and certainly not funny. The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) investigated the origin of the site and found that the name and address under which the site is registered, a "Dr. Michael Wong in New York," is false information. The site was reportedly created by a student at M.I.T. as a joke among friends. When this site initially appeared, a local humane organization did get involved on a local level in checking out this person, but discovered no evidence of actual animal abuse having occurred. The Web site’s creator was probably trying to generate attention by upsetting people who care about animals.
The only law that applies in this case is a law that covers e-mailed obscenities. However, if the site is not in violation of the host's user agreement, no law is being violated, and the site can remain up. This site has been closed down several times before, but continues to reappear with different Web addresses. Please let the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) know that you are concerned by filing a complaint at www.ifccfbi.gov. This Web site is a reporting center set up by the FBI for Internet fraud and other forms of Internet crime.
Hopefully, with enough complaints filed with the FBI, stressing the influence it may have on cases of actual cruelty, the Bonsai Kitten site will be removed permanently
