Well, I'm not entirely surprised someone whining and bitching has already started to put people off, though honestly I would have thought it would not start until into the first major war..Sea Skimmer wrote:I don't care anymore. I'm not going to artificially limit myself for an advantage people wont respect, and with our small Empire sizes building a new navy after the fact isn't an option.SirNitram wrote:

Quite. I've changed my numbers as well, to reflect that if people won't respect the fact my ships are hard to track, they will respect the Big-Fucking-Guns. I'm at 300 even, though I have no Destroyer-analogues. Then again, the Lost's structure does not have many niches for such a vessel not already fufilled.Thirdfain wrote:-shrug- With the maritime law giving control of a system to whoever controls the major settlements, and what looks to me to be an unwillingness to share systems, I've decided to do the same- I'm nearly doubling my fleet size, up to 308 major vessels from 160.
I do think, however, the Floaters and Lost will get on well, even if most Lost are 'Heavies'.

I have 15 large battleships, 27 cruisers, 241 frigates and 36 monitors, and that's after a major step up in power. Now it seems that even that leaves me greatly behind. Quite a few powers seem to have 50+ battleships with nothing but cruisers for the rest of the fleet, though no specifications for them. Guess I'll wait to more orders of battle appear, WITH SPECIFICATIONS as are required. I stated that my capital ships where suppost to be basically the biggest on the block but where few in number, but I'm betting that wont last.SirNitram wrote:Quite. I'd like to have a small number of big ships so no one will risk them without good cause. But it seems that 400 major combatants is being interpreted as 400 capital units without anything like a balanced fleet.

120 cruisers of various types
250 small vessels...
Hmm... I think I'm going to off some of my cruisers to make room for planetary assault craft.

I'll respect that, though I'm betting a Lost BB could give you a run for the money.. If it got the first volley off. I just don't want to try and BS numbers for my smaller craft, since literally there would be hundreds, maybe thousands for the fleet train of the Generation Ships alone.I'd like to have a small number of big ships so no one will risk them without good cause. Is it too late to get in on this? If not, I'll have time to write a force declaration later tonight.

How exactly is having a neutrally partial beam cannon suppose to be an equalizer? My ships have them too.SirNitram wrote:

All right then, are those on the generation ships fixed or in turret or ball mountings?SirNitram wrote: Lots and lots of energy. They're something like the heaviest guns so far declared, but their recharge time sucks hairy ass.

Limited turret. Expect between 3-4 to be able to target any one point around the ship.Sea Skimmer wrote:All right then, are those on the generation ships fixed or in turret or ball mountings?SirNitram wrote: Lots and lots of energy. United Pirate Kingdoms:
History: The Betelgeuse cluster had always been a war-torn badlands, away from major trade routes and important destinations. 5 different pirate empires competed in a fratricidal war for control of the cluster. This all changed with the arrival of an unspeakably advanced starship. Small, though it was, it had enough firepower to smash any ship known to the pirate kingdoms. Unfortunately for its pilot, an enigmatic human named Arthur Tuxedo, it was out of control, in a death spiral toward Betelgeuse Prime, where it was competely destroyed upon impact shortly after its pilot was able to eject. Describing himself as a "Jedi", Arthur had a firm grasp of tactics, and the uncanny ability to predict enemy decisions. With this Jedi as an advisor, then-Warlord James Dagnar was able to conquer or subdue all 4 other kingdoms, forming the UPK, with himself as its King.
Government: Nominally a monarchy, the UPK enjoys vibrant and relatively unrestricted trade, although large and powerful corporations are forbidden, as King Dagnar does not like to share power. The King does not meddle in his Kingdom's day to day affairs, but the price of going against his word or questioning his orders is often fatal once he's made up his mind about something. He listens only to one mysterious figure, and does not tolerate input from others.
Current ambitions: The UPK has recovered from its fratricidal war of only a few years prievious, consolidated and rebuilt its military, and is eager for conquest. King Dagnar is well-liked and supported by a populace that is generally just as bloodthirsty as he is. The UPK thinks in terms of military might and conquest.
Holdings:
The 5 planets that made up the home bases of the former pirate kingdoms are all very well developed militarily, even if development in other areas is a bit lacking. Population is roughly 1 billion on each of these planets.
These planets are rich in mineral resources, but lacking in agriculture, so 5 planets have been colonized for the purpose of providing food for the homeworlds.
