Bullshit. To my knowledge, none of the five games in the Gundam series was released on anything other than PS/PS2, and anyone who denies that they aren't quality titles hasn't put any time into them. What about Rogue Leader for GC? What about the Final Fantasy series?
I think the PS2 is far better, bigger range of games, cooler appearance, and a better controller.
It also has the ability to play my beloved Cowboy Bebop DVDs without me having to pay extra for a DVD add-on.

PS2 discs are also not hewn from the bones of dead baby seals, unlike XBox discs (it's true!).

LIES! Everyone knows they're actually bones from deceased Apple programmers!

Yeah, that was Microsoft bashing from an X-Box owner. So what? :P

Either console has enough titles that they are worth the investment. One simply has to do research on their own about games available to see which would better suit their tastes.

Like which ones? Certainly not Colony Wars? What about the Final Fantasies?
Gamers are always looking for the newest games. Programmers want to work on something fresh. It's an endless cycle. One that applies to EVERYTHING.
Well, you'l have to forgive me for not being into FF that much. 7 was okay by me(mind you, I'm not a fan), 8 was way overhyped, and 9 was a disgrace. At any rate, you only gave 2 examples of PS1 games that were mentioning(and I didn't even remember Colony Wars).
Cal Wright wrote:How many people are going to fire up Faxanadu again? Or a Boy and His Blob? Really this is NOT a fair comparison. Spyro is crap. It's just overhyped on the cartoon network. Besides, Super Double Dragon sucks, when compared to say, oh the original Double Dragon.

Super Double Dragon was the first game that came to mind when I thought of games that the casual gamer didn't pay much attention to. If given enough time, I could give a number of PS1 games that were overlooked as well. On the other hand, the injustice done to PS titles in comparison to say,SEGA SATURN titles is the P.O.V I'm coming from.
Cal Wright wrote:That is about the smartest thing anyone has said. It sucks no one would buy it, or developers would support it. Me and my friends get together and play the shit out of that system.

I knew we weren't the only ones!!!!!!!! I'm not even done finding all of the titles for this horribly underrated system, so why should I buy any of the consoles out there just yet?
Cal Wright wrote:That's if they're in the bargain bin with a buy one get four free deal.
If more people saw it that way, the state of the video game industry wouldn't suck so much. Most consumers look for the extras a console can offer, as oppose to the quality of the product. I remember arguing non-stop with my cousin about why I chose a Dreamcast over the PS2(a decision I still stand strongly behind). "It can play DVD's" seems to be the main line I heard from every PS2 supporter. I thought to myself, if that's the reason you buy consoles, then why did anyone ever get an Atari, a Nintendo, a Genesis, a Super Nintendo, or hell a Playstation? Bigger corporations are ruining the industry to an extent.
Cal Wright wrote:I like it's roaming around bit, it's like a FPS/Driving Sim in one. Side missions and bonus nonsense to boot. The game can piss me off easily, but I do keep going back to it simply because I can either screw around or actually play a game. Pretty nice.
Same with Shenmue, well sorta. There is a timeline, but an extremely lengthy one. In the first game, you could waste away at least 4-6 months without making much progress(and the game goes day by day). Add to that the ability to play classic Yu Suzuki arcade games, and I have to say advantage Shenmue.
Cal Wright wrote:heh. They're all about guilty of that. I still find arguments about the PS1 lacking. For people like myself or my brother, things just aren't going to compare with the golden age of gaming, or the great console wars. My nephew though, knows jack shit about these games or that time. So PS1 games are 'classic' or becoming that way to him. But in relation to the 8/16 bit wars. One was the opening to an incrediable world, the other showed everyone what stiff competition does to the market. I'm more willing to put cash down on titles, much like Zelda, Metroid, that are going to bring me first off, hours of play the first time through, because of gameplay and story, then with the added graphics. Many titles have floated around for a while that were just shit. The market is flooded with upstarts and nonsense. If the corps are really pushed into making something, Nintendo type games happen. That's probably the main problem between Xbox and PS2 is right now. Titles ARE going between the two machines. Which is a shame, since if someone was going to get an exclusive, then it push to be a HELL of a lot better, then trying to meet a deadline and cut even.
The world needs more people like you. Actually the industry and the population both. Everything wrong with the industry is the fault of both sides of the spectrum. Your nephew, for example, is unfortunately the rule and not the exception. Most so-called gamers these days don't know a true classic when they see one. If they did, the Sega Saturn would've sold a lot more based on Guardian Heroes, Nights, and Dark Savior alone. P.S. Most of the games I own don't glitch that badly.
Notice the developers that are actually there to make a game, and make one that will cause you to slave yourself to the title and the system itself. Once again, titles like Zelda on the Nintendo. Grant Turismo or MGS your preference on Sony's machines. Then Halo on the XBox. One thing that sucks though, is I was really interested in the mech game on the Xbox that had the meglo controller to it. If I had the cash for the the system, the game and the joystick, a place to put it all, and more titles to choose from later, I'dve picked it up. That's what I did for GT3. I bought that and the steering wheel. It was well worth the price of admission.
I think you mean Steel Battalion. If the price was within reason, there'd be 6 XBox titles worth buying. Anyway, reading this post was fun. I knew I wasn't the only one that felt this way, and this proved to me that things are far from great in the gaming world.

Never heard of Gundam so I can't speak on that, but the Final Fantasy series sucks (in my opinion) I can't stand those type of turn based fighting games. While I have not played Rogue Leader I have Rogue Squadron on the N64 and it is good enough :P

Don't even get me fucking started on that god damned DVD function. I KNEW it wasn't a dedicated DVD machine. In articles Sony was totin' thier shit, but under thier breath they'd go "It's main purpose is gaming. Secondary is DVD function" It fucks up on Gladiator, X-Men, and a few I've rented. POS. The Dreamcast, runs games beautifully. My cousin Stampede and my friend Tropen have managed to finally lagg the Dreamcast out. We've had a few excursions with Quake, but this is supposed to be more drastic.

I have to agree. Most PS1 titles are forgettable, and the ones that aren't have already been topped. The likelihood of someone going back to play Spyro the Dragon with the same enthusiasm as if they were playing Actraiser or Super Double Dragon is slim and none.
It has to be noted that not all of the PS1's games have been brought over to the West. A lot of the biggest hits for the PS 1 has only been for the Japanese/Asian market only so it would not be correct to assume that most PS1 titles are forgettable if you only had played those that have been brought over to the States.

Ok, I read(in a military newspaper when I was stationed in Oki) that the chip used in the PS2 is powerful enough to be used for missile guidance systems, and that is why they limited exports intially. But Japan has NO military so "Japanese military grade" andything is not possible.

Japan has the JSDF, which is actually rather well-equipped, especially the JMSDF.

As for missile guidance, you can do that with calculator processors (and it was done so by the USSR). The main processor is powerful enough to do some nuclear research, however (in numbers, anyways)

Japan has no offensive military. But they keep a defense force, and contribute to UN peacekeeping missions.
