Russia reconsiders its military structure

Take this with a grain of salt people. Remember Afaganistan? And no I don't mean the fact that it turned out to be a total pooch-screw for the Soviets, I was more refering to the initial invasion...

The jaws of the western generals dropped in awe! The Soviets used excellent planning and staging, and overwhelmed the Afgan resistance. It wasn't until the gurila war started till, the 'Soviet system' (strong central planning and very little autonomy) broke down.

All I am trying to say is that the Soviets did to Afganistan, what the US did to Iraq. The only difference is that the gurilla war hasn't started in Iraq - yet. It might never if the US somehow manages to keep everyone happy, but then again...

Well over 4.000 suicide bombers arrived at Baghdad in the middle of the war, and so far only few suicide attacks have been made. I don't think more then a dozen US troops has fallen to them yet. The list might yet arrive.
But then again it could have been nothing but propoganda.

It is similar, but not the same. The Soviets invaded to prop up a failing hated government, the US and UK invaded to smash one.

The problem with Truly Evil Empires(tm) is that whenever they show up, the world quickly gathers around for a collective ass-kicking. The main players do the actual "boot-in-the-butt", while the rest indulges in the popcorn, rooting on the sidelines. Like a game of (insert favorite sport here). It happened so many times, that those who want to try to be truly evil are too afraid to come out of the woodworks. The end effect is this: We must endure a b-rated real-life show about evil-wannabe countries.

Oh I totally agree, I was refering to the military operation and aspectes rather than the political. That's why I said that the US hasn't faced a gurilla war. Mind you what happened at Karbala two days ago was just impressive. 1 million people go on a pilgramige (without any large scale organisation) there was no police or military at the city and yet there were no security concerns. That is just amazing.

There also appeared to be only a minimal of anti American feeling, some people interviewed wanted the US go home at once but others where just glad that the US had gotten rid of Saddam and allowed them to conduct there pilgrimage.

I was surprised nothing happened, but then no one would want to start anything with a huge mass of people around, if they turn on you your very fucked....

There actually were at least two incidents when US foot patrols stumbled onto anti-American rallies- as the news reports said on the events-it was a miracle there wasn't a bloodbath.
