I don't know who thought up the nuclear family idea, but they should have been shot for it. If we stuck to the extended family concept, then kids would have a place to be after school--grandparents, uncles, etc could keep an eye on them. Not babysitters that don't give a shit unless they get paid.
You're on to something very critical here. But Industrial Society as an imposition is affecting cultures with extended families as well. I suspect they'll make the transition more smoothly in general, however.

But our definition of family could change very radically by the time Industrial Society has finished evolving as a concept.

I am curious.

I live in Germany. We had one year ago our first ("big")..well school shooting (17 dead). As tragic this may be, but every time something happens involving kids go nuts (the Erfurt one was just the most horrible one), politicians and some other fundations scream all the evil brainwashing the kids comes from PC Games, RPGs and Movies.

Is it in the U.S. (or whereever you live) the same?

Well, i am still playing RPGs and on my PC. Due to my job (Military) i have a kinda big ressource of Weapons at my free disposal (up to 120mm Mortars). Am i a ticking time bomb?

Does he still have it?
No, he sold it before he joined the army. While the gun was quite cheep the ammo was expensive as shit. His current 150 odd gun collection doesn't have anything more powerful then a Bren Gun, I have full access to them all.

He wishes he kept it, but the Army offered some much larger weapons back in the 60's.

Actually, I was just asking to see if he had any junky Turk Mausers
that we could 'torture test' to see how much abuse they can take
before they don't fire

The Turkish Mauser is surprisingly accurate at any reasonable combat ranges for a WWI infantryman (not sure if it could be used for sniping, however). I'm not sure about its fragility or not, though.
