Think Castles or Scorched Earth, but insanely fun. There's a top-notch action shoot-em-up version in real time called Liero that's based directly on the Worms game, and another, better one called Soldat.
Note: I'm semi-retired from the board, so if you need something, please be patient.

oh man...you're lucky i saw this before Cal. maybe this'll soften the blow for when he does start in on ya. it's like a lil war game, but with worms. you can have up to 4 teams of 4 worms. your weapons: bazookas, homing missles, dynamite, grenades, cluster bombs, land mines, etc. you also have ninja rope, bungee ropes, girders, etc. your objective: slaughter the other teams. maps are generated by the computer, so you never know what kinda terrain your gonna get, but you can choose for it generate another map. Cal should be able to give a better description on it. btw...the first one is the best.I have never heard of Worms.... whats it about ?

Oh dear Lord!!! The horror! The irony!!! Somebody, get me a stupid mallet, stat!!! Worms is only like the best strategic game EVER!!!
First off, it's 2d. The battlefield is generated by computer, or you can input numbers, so you'll either never know what you'll get (and probably won't ever see it again) or keep tabs of where you want to be.
Next, the characters. Are all WORMS. Yes, all worms. A team of four worms, and up to four teams. Either computer or player controlled. Your armaments range from the bazooka, homing missiles to grenades, mines, sheep (baaah. You know, Shep's idea of a Saturday night), banana bombs.
Then you have some of the extras like bungee rope, ninja rope, drills, blow torches. That's just the first Worms installment. The others have other shit too. The first is the best though. If you get to were you can have unlimited ninja rope, bungee, and dynamite, you can take two teams of four worms and spend an hour obliterating everyone. LoL. Basically, you're trying to take out the other side. It can be anyway. Every worm has 100 hit points. The quick ways are trying to make someone fall off into the water, or blow them skyward and off the screen. I expect for you in one week to have played this game. No, god damnit. Your punishment is to MASTER this game!!! Do so or you shall feel the wrath of my Iron Fist!!!

Deus Ex - absolutely superb. And it has that distinct moral dimension running throughout the game; that resulted in some interesting discussions on the Ion Storm BBS.

How come? Bungie had been working on he ideas and technology for it before Unreal came out. The three games it owes most to are Marathon, Myth and Oni. There's a lot of Marathon in the game and I think the othe two tested some of the technology for it.aphexmonster wrote:funny you mention halo...i thought it was just an unreal rip off.
