Who CAN the Borg drones beat?

Post by Kreshna Aryaguna Nurzaman »

Inspired by "Who CAN the Federation ground troops beat" thread.

Well, IMO, Borg drones are pathetic (duh). They walk ***SLOWLY*** to their target, then injecting their "assimilation tubes" (whatever) to their victims on point-blank range. They don't have concept of ranged infantry weapon. They don't have concept of surpression fire. They don't have concept of squad-level tactics. All they do is walk slowly to their target. Pathetic.

So who can they actually beat, besides those pathetic B&B-created fools??

I think, in equal number, these following groups will make a mincemeat out of Borg drones:
- US Marines
- SWAT team
- Al Capone's henchmen
- Napoleonic-era riflemen
- Medieval British longbowmen
- Jenghis Khan horsemen (talk about cavalry stampede...)

And these people may have fifty-fifty chance against borg drones:
- a bunch of schoolyard bullies
- *unarmed*, low-level (apprentice?) kung-fu fighters (not kung-fu masters, though. The Borg will have their assholes raped for sure.)
- A bunch of WWF wrestlers
- street gang without guns (just chains and baseball sticks)
(now, some people may think I'm too generous to the Borg, but since those people above have to fight hand-to-hand, there may be some chance that the Borg can have a chance to inject their "assimilation device" in point-blank range.)

But so far I cannot found others that the Borg can beat. Anyone?

Schoolyard bullies won't have a chance, they don't have the stomach for violence and killing. Kunf-fu, well, it depends on whether weapons such as swords are allowed. If they are then the borg will get put down by any competant martial artist. WWF wrestlers, hmmm...if chairs, tables, ladders, and other objects used in their "hardcore" matches are allowed, then the borg get ruined.

Trekkers!

The borg would beat the easily.

Sitrep sort of like this:

Trekkie sees a borg scream woo cool dude best convention outfit I ever seen *zap* one more drone.

Repeat until all trekkies are gone then the army storms in and makes micemeat out of them all.

Everyone wins borg is beaten and all trekkers are gone

Don't forget that at least some drones are armed with disruptors. We may have seen these fired in "Descent, Pt. I", but their use among the normal collective is confirmed in "Scorpion, Pt. I".

The Zombies from Resident Evil, would propably lose because they were as dumb as the Borg. In fact they could be the precurser to the borg, if you watched the movie.
They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong

"Scorpion"? ROFL! You think a hand-held disruptor did damage to that ship?

Any competent martial artist will rip through the Borg. If we assume human drones, they'll have all the vulnerabilities that the martial artist is trained to attack (e.g. pressure points, joints, etc.). Since it's been well established by the combat in ST:FC that Borg shields don't stop KE, those vulnerabilities are open.

The most heavily armed force the Borg might be able to beat is a bunch of sword waving half starved/half frozen Japanese officers fresh back from duty on Kiska, if they were sufficiently drunk.

But even that’s unlikely.

For a force to be beat by the Borg, it needs weak energy weapons no more powerful then a Federation phaser rifle or two, which also have operating frequencies and are semi auto only. The troops carrying them must also have no knifes or bayonets and must also be stupider and less creative then normal humans.

True, but fighting in hand to hand range exposes the humans to the borg's assimilation devices. Also, since the borg have cybernetic enhancements and are stronger and likely a fair bit tougher than the average human, they'll be harder to take out than a normal human. The borg trade off speed and tactics for strength and toughness. An unarmed martial artist would need a lot of striking power to take down a borg drone, but with a nice edged weapon like a sword the borg should go down quite nicely.

Fine, we'll put the Pope's Swiss Guards, armed with only Pikes. The Borg Lose.

Look, they suck. Period. You have to sit aorund and construct scenarios so that the Borg can win, unless, of course, the Borg are fighting the Federation, who mindlessly insist on using the weapons the Borg have excellent defenses against.

The Borg lose against anybody who doesn't have the inherent weaknesses that the Borg are used to exploiting.
And only the rogue Borg use hand held disruptors, regular Borg just shuffle towards you because their only tactic is assimilate, assimilate, assimilate. That's it.

I like the way he always makes vague reference to sources, so you have to be familiar with the source in order to see how he's shamelessly misrepresenting it. Like his bizarre claim that the SWE proves SW neutronium is a metallic substance, even though the text actually says nothing of the kind. He reminds me of creationists that way; when he can't win an argument through logic, he can simply resort to lies.

Well, possibly the borg can win against a bunch of cavemen wielding wooden spears and stone axes. Both factions don't have even the slightest gasp of tactics and both use melee weapons.

That's our Wong . . . always willing to lie to further his own point.
Like his bizarre claim that the SWE proves SW neutronium is a metallic substance, even though the text actually says nothing of the kind.
"The Star Wars Encyclopedia (referencing the Star Wars Sourcebook and Rebel Dawn) says neutronium is a heavy metallic element, and that those three elements make up Imperial dura-armor and durasteel."
http://ocean.otr.usm.edu/~randers2/STSWneutronium.html

"Neutronium
an heavy metallic element used in the formation of dura-armor and durasteel. (SWSB, RD, CTD)"
http://www1.theforce.net/CUSWE/categori ... 15&type=72

Now if, bychance, some Warsie was mistaken about the origin of the quote, and I have repeated this mistake, one would have two choices:

1. Deny the existence of the fact that SW non-canon materials make the claim, and call me a liar.

2. Assume that I got the source mistaken, and correct me.

Given that the Unofficial Encyclopedia entry does not refer to the SW Encyclopedia as one of the references, it may be that my source data is in error. This does not alter the facts of the case, nor does it make me a liar.

If you would care to post the entry on neutronium from the Encyclopedia for all to see, I would be delighted. At the moment, all I have from you (besides BS character attacks) is this:

"Furthermore, Imperial dura-armor is made by "compressing and binding neutronium, lomite, and zersium molecules together through the process of matrix acceleration", according to the SWE."

I'd like to see how the Borg would fare in WWI trench combat.
They get all the stuff the machine guns and the artilery (i doubt they'd use them anyway) and have to fight an army of that time.

Aww, ya beat me to it. I was gg to suggest the post-monolith cavemen from 2001, and even then it's a squeaker.

Now, I'd just thought of "what if a Borg drone rang your doorbell when you were alone at home, and crashed through the door if you didn't let him in?"

My 1st thought is to cap it with a .45 ACP, but I don't have one. I'm thinking about getting a Ruger, because I trust the Ruger auto (simple, robust, and reliable), but really, that's never gg to happen. But, since a drone's so slow, I could slice him up with a cook's knife before he could get me. I could thump the hell out of him with the metal cultivator rake in the garage, which I might consider because of his toughness and weight advantage. I think for someone like me, a quick incapacitation with a knife would be the best way. You can tangle up his hands with a shirt when he tries to stab you, and carve him up with the knife. I could grab two knives, and parry his hands with one and pound him in the face with the other. My job would be made easier by the fact that I have 2 huge dogs who would make themselves useful. I could run to the garage, crash the car through the door, and run his ass over. There are a zillion ways I could think of for a borderline-obese, martially-incompetent white boy like me to take out a drone.

Shep, on the other hand, would rely on a gun, and hence would be the next new drone... Oooh, I'm mean...
What a world, what a world! Who would have thought that a little girl could destroy my wickedness?
